The @mybmc today announced that it has made it mandatory for bulk waste generators in Mumbai to register with the civic body, on the Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) portal and either process waste on-site or route it through authorised BMC systems.

A bulk generators will be identified based on multiple parameters. Any establishment with a constructed area of 20,000 sq metres or more, daily waste generation exceeding 100 kg, or water consumption above 40,000 litres will be classified as a bulk waste generator. Meeting even one of these criteria will trigger mandatory compliance obligations.

Additional municipal commissioner Ashwini Joshi said the initial phase will focus on onboarding and awareness before enforcement and penalties are introduced in a structured manner.
