Happy farthest we’ve ever been from the earth day! A bit over 1/2 hr ago the @nasaartemis 2 mission took @nasaastronauts further away from our home planet than humans have EVER been. The vehicle is doing great and the flight #test continues to give @nasa insight for planning Artemis 3 and beyond

Under 10 minutes from the launch window opening. I’m always amazed by the amount of work that happens for so many small details whether @nasakennedy range clearing or @nasaartemis monitoring vehicle battery state. Space is still hard and hence the #test approach. This is a flight test from start to finish with major goals being the Orion environmental control system near Earth and in deep space, the rendezvous and prox ops (RPO) demo you’ll see about 3hrs after launch, guidance and nav around the moon, and then re-entry and checking out the heatshield. When people ask @NASA_Astronauts why we love our jobs, going to space & @Space_Station is 1 reason…but another reason is the variety of things we see in our daily training to further the multiple human spaceflight efforts we are testing as @NASAArtemis pushes beyond low earth orbit. In one 48 hr period I was blessed to be able to fly a T-38 with a crewmate to work on our resource management/comm, test procedures for @NASA_Orion proximity ops for #Artemis2, prep for an @Axiom_Space pressurized lunar spacesuit test, work the night shift assisting doctors/nurses @memorialhermann ER, test a @blueorigin lunar landing simulator, and watch @SpaceX catch the first stage so we can eventually progress to on-orbit propellant transfer to get @NASA to the moon. Apollo was awesome but NEVER in the history of human spaceflight have we been doing so much testing across so many vehicles.
