Viewership plateaued long ago that its just the diehards who are watching. Pretty sure that market can handle 2-7, PLO or any of the Stud variants. Not to mention they have the most chatty tables. Pretty sure Phil's "I'm burning down the Rio" was a Stud8 tournament.
Still not understanding why there isn't a main stage stream. Then a B and a C stream which are barebones. With the main stream checking in on the B and C streams periodically and to promote them. This was a thing that was done almost 15 years ago when ESPN was running things.
@Deepea6@Poker906@shaundeeb@WSOP the only live tournament numbers that are up at the WSOP are 2-7, O8, mixed game events. NLH events are down across the board at the WSOP
WSOP is now putting copyright claims on the clips
Restricting their own platform from getting eyes
Get these boomers out of poker ASAP before they kill it
PREDICTION: WSOP Main Event numbers will be down from last year and down again for a third year in a row next year, at which point it will be made into a ‘single-re-entry’.
The only problem is you can't track how many times that person reentered a tournament.
So if I could do it as bored project during COVID shutdown to learn Excel in 2020 I'm sure someone today with all the AI tools in the world can whip up something easier. The data is out there.
Can't find my 2+2 thread or post about it but yeah its pretty easy. I did it around 2020 using Allen as an example.
Poker News would have a list of the players at the end of Day 1. Copy all the names and chip counts. Have another tab for the cash list and copy all those names. Then you just cross reference the two.
The PGT and high roller data was super easy. Because those fields were small like 50 to maybe 100 entries at most events.
From 2015-2023 there was one guy who played 231 events, cashed 58 times for 7.1m and was still stuck 1.6m
The technology to track WSOP profitability is pretty easy to build, I believe a few already track the ( entries) via the WSOP app and then track the cashes..
Just saying..
@stephmeadwx Shutdown 696 East bound, now close off 94 from Masonic to North River. 75 is running too smooth lets to do some bridge inspections. Time to resurface Rochester rd
sorry the PRCA argument falls flat. In the smaller circuit rodeo events the riders make up the prize pool. To draw bigger names the main events all have added money from sponsors to bump the pool.
Shout out to @Table1Vegas for interviewing Lee Markholt who broke down the rodeo circuit.
I wonder if Cherry Spitting, Pillow Fighting, Roofball or Kickball goes through these growing pains of making sure the appropriate sponsor gets those critical views from ESPN.
The poker wars are heating up
this looks bigger than a patch/logo crackdown
From how I’m reading the WSOP rules, this is now about controlling what branded/promotional content can be created inside the WSOP and then distributed on YouTube, IG, X, livestreams, etc.
If your content includes sponsor reads, affiliate links, logo overlays, promotional language, or a brand WSOP does not approve, that may no longer be treated as just “creator content.” It may be treated as unauthorized promotion.
CoinPoker and Phenom Poker have reportedly already been denied. I’d assume ClubWPT Gold will face heavy scrutiny too, especially after last year’s final-table promo controversy.
This matters because a ton of poker creators monetize WSOP content through sponsor reads, affiliate deals, logos, patches, overlays, and links. Last year we saw sponsor promotion become part of the bracelet/final-table conversation which is a big inspiration for this change.
So the question is not: “Can I wear this patch?”
The real question is: “Can I use the WSOP as the backdrop for monetized poker content promoting a competing or restricted gaming brand?”
That is a much bigger war
