Yesterday, the Senate failed to pass a bill that would extend SBIR/STTR for one year. As of today, these programs have officially lapsed. CEBN President @L_Abramson commented:
“We are incredibly disappointed that authorization for the SBIR/STTR programs has lapsed... (1/2)
SBIR and STTR programs have been vital to keeping small businesses at the forefront of American innovation. The House did our job, passing a year-long extension of the programs to ensure certainty for our nation’s greatest innovators.
Last night, Chairman @RepRWilliams—along with @HSBCDems Ranking Member @NydiaVelazquez, @HouseScience Chairman @RepBrianBabin, and @ScienceDems Ranking Member @RepZoeLofgren—issued the following statement on the programs expiring.
https://t.co/tv7g4t0oWS
The SBIR & STTR programs fuel America’s innovation engine. Cutting successful small businesses out would be like cutting your top scorer before a big game.
We can’t decimate science, jobs, & security—Congress must reauthorize SBIR/STTR now.
If the Senate fails to act by tomorrow night, the SBIR and STTR programs will lapse on October 1st.
The House has already passed H.R. 5100 to extend the program for one year while negotiations on a long-term reauthorization continue.
Saving energy while growing the economy is good business. CEBN is proud to join 150+ US companies in affirming our support for the @UNFCCC goal of doubling the global rate of energy efficiency improvements.
