A COUNTRY OF PARTICULAR CONCERN – MY CONCERNS
1. STOP EMBRACING THE ENEMY
I see some folks dancing in the rain at the breaking of this news, hoping it might somehow breathe life into an opposition that is already lying in political disarray.
In the eternal words of the legendary scholar Pa Adebayo Faleti in Tunde Kelani’s evergreen classic Saworoide: “When a thief promises to help you fix your broken door, it’s no call for jubilation.”
America has never been known to dip its hands into a pot from which it does not intend to eat. Since when did African lives suddenly become the heartbeat of the West? And as citizens, we must not let our political disagreements blind us to the real predators circling our shores. Do not, in a moment of anger, bare your teeth in laughter for those who wish you no good.
2. OUR COMPLICITY IN THE MATTER
Even though the U.S. was always going to do what it had set its mind on, we - through our silence and sluggish diplomacy - handed them the pen with which they wrote this narrative.
If the nation cannot afford to engage ambassadors across all fronts, the least we could have done was prioritize strategic interest like Washington D.C., where real-time diplomatic oxygen is needed. Perhaps; just perhaps - the tides could have been better managed by those who understand the terrain, the temperament, and the tone of the discussions.
That was a missed opportunity, a door we should never have left ajar for the winds of global politics to blow wild. Matters of this sensitivity should never be left solely to the vigilance of the media team.
3. CPC – WHICH COMPANY ARE WE?
Nigeria was first marked with the CPC stamp in 2020. And guess who sat on the throne of God’s own Country at that time? Yes, the same man who has once again dragged Nigeria into that ignoble corridor and who branded our then President Muhammadu Buhari 'LIFELESS'. We were struck off the list by President Biden in 2021, which leaves one wondering: what peculiar fascination does Trump have with Nigeria? Perhaps our resistance in receiving America's reject???
But let’s be clear - we are neither the first nor the last nation to wear this unfortunate badge. China, North Korea, Cuba, Eritrea, Saudi Arabia, Turkmenistan, and others share this uncomfortable bench with us.
Many of these countries are not under insurgent siege, have no record of targeted religious cleansing, yet they stand listed. Proof that such designations can be stirred not exactly by facts but by emotions, sentiments, or even the mood swings of a president thousands of miles away.
4. THE REST OF THE WORLD MUST BREAK FREE
The world has nursed at America’s breast long enough. It is a monumental embarrassment that a continent as rich and vast as Africa still waits for a country almost 12,000 km away to interpret its local realities.
We must look inward. We must do better.
In the immortal words of Bob Marley: “Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery; none but ourselves can free our mind.”
True help will not descend from the clouds of Washington - only from the soil beneath our feet. Foreign powers will gladly give a dog a bad name just to justify the hanging. How can the U.S. claim to understand our security complexities better than those who live, breathe, and survive them daily?
Like Chief MKO Abiola famously said: “No barber is skilled enough to shave a man’s hair in the absence of the head.”
CAN said there is no genocide. PFN said there is no genocide. All major Christian bodies echoed the same - for while Christians bleed, Muslims also bleed, and so do others across the religious spectrum.
But NO! America knows better - better than the locals who bury the victims, comfort the survivors, and navigate the chaos.
5. FINALLY…
No savior will descend from the skies. Nigeria must confront its realities head-on and seek alliances that do not require us to grovel. The world is shifting - only those with courageous vision will survive.

LAGOS STINKS; IN FACT, THE ENTIRE SOUTHWEST IS BELOW STANDARD
If an average African travels to Dubai, and based on the stories of excellence he must have heard and the reputation of perfection, the image of Dubai suggests, if he is motivated by pessimism and inspired by envy, he combs the streets for flaws. And when he stumbles upon a lonely pothole on a forgotten road, he claps his hands in triumph—his bitterness now has evidence, his resentment a badge of honor.
Yorubas, you brag too much. But then again, why not? Each of our states wears a crown, each boasts of a feather in its cap.
Ogun State – The industrial heartbeat of Nigeria. For example, Fraud Ibn 3rd's legacy is a brewery, Ogun State has at least 3 breweries of international and global reckoning, and no Ogun State Governor must mount the podium to boast, the yorubas will disown him.
Ekiti State – The land where scholarship flows like palm wine. Famed as the headquarters of scholars, where despite the economic challenges, even okada riders could boast of a masters degree. There are some locations only notorious for fake drugs and hard drugs.
Oyo State – The land where history sits like a proud elder, watching generations come and go. The Oyo empire, for example, is one of Africa's earliest civilizations and democracy. Ibadan stood as the largest city for ages, and civilization found a home here—the first TV station, the tallest building, the richest heritage. While some regions are famous for erosion and ritual killings, Oyo remains a living museum of African greatness.
Osun State – The cultural heartbeat of the nation. Ile-Ife, the cradle of the Yoruba race, has stood since time itself learned to count. The Osun River attracts more pilgrims than some states attract investors. Ifa, once whispered in secret, is now studied in Ivy League universities. But expecting a people without history to appreciate culture is like asking a goat to understand poetry. A people whose identities are either borrowed or stolen, layer by layer...
Ondo State – A land where the earth hides treasures beneath its feet. Blessed with minerals and fertile soil, if harnessed properly, Ondo would not just be a state—it would be an empire of wealth.
Lagos State – Ah! Make I laugh first. The economic powerhouse of Nigeria. The 2nd largest economy in Africa by GDP. A state so formidable, it could declare independence and still outperform entire nations. Lagos is the giant that never sleeps, the pulse of commerce, the home of dreams. But, alas, Lagos stinks.
It stinks not just of refuse, but of human congestion, of cultures clashing in a chaotic symphony. Lagos is Nigeria in miniature—every tribe, every dialect, every hustle, every struggle. While many like Dangote bring fortune and investments with them, others bring body odor, lack of hygiene, indecency, and misfortune with them. They add to the numbers but not to the value, They litter the streets like confetti at a lost celebration, build on drainages, block waterways, then cry foul when nature reacts in provocation. You cannot plant weeds and expect a harvest of roses.
Yorubas, arrogant people. The only tribe that largely stays rooted in its land, yet plays host to all others—feeding them, sheltering them, tolerating their ingratitude. They curse the land but refuse to leave it. They mock its flaws but remain glued to its opportunities. If Yoruba land were truly as bad as they claim, their feet would have long found the road home. But a man does not abandon the only house that shelters him, even if he grumbles about the leaking roof.
And to the Yorubas, maybe it’s time to see the world. Make una sef travel. Explore. Witness other Nigerian cities. But then again, tell me, how many Americans flee the USA in search of greener pastures? Excellence stays rooted; it does not seek validation elsewhere.

Thank you for your take on this topical issue. You may have failed to understand that the Lukumi Yoruba are not a reactive race. They proact rather than react. The annulment has already happened. When it occurred and while there was still hope, they agitated and formed the National Democratic Coalition.
Due to NADECO's actions, Nigeria became a pariah state. Afenifere encouraged Lukumi Yorubas in the banking sector to wage an economic war against Nigeria, which upended the banking industry and led General Abacha to establish the Failed Banks Tribunal.
Due to the strong fightback from prominent Omo Odua, General Abacha's government killed Kudirat Abiola, Chief Alfred Rewane, Mrs Bisoye Tejuoso, Rear Admiral Babatunde Elegbede, Admiral Emanuel Olu Omotehinwa, Alhaja Suliat Adedeji, Dr Sola Omatsola, Toyin Onagoruwa, amongst others.
Abacha also tried to kill Pa Abraham Adesanya but for God's intervention.
Some, like Adekunle Ajasin, Chief Olabiyi Durojaiye, and others, were detained without trial.
Prominent Lukumi escaped into exile, including Professor Wole Soyinka, then-Senator Bola Tinubu, and many others.
However, when General Abacha and Chief Abiola died or were killed (we really don't know the truth), and Nigeria compensated the Lukumi Yoruba with power in 1999, there was no more need to keep fighting and raging. To do so would be to be reactive.
General Babangida will not suffer because Lukumi Yoruba come online to insult and attack him or rant against him. That is not cowardice. That is wisdom.
That you and I are quarrelling does not mean we must fight forever. Only a madman fights because he likes fighting. Sane people fight for their interests. And if the person you are fighting has satisfied your interests, you, as a reasonable person, should stop fighting and start cooperating.
People who are led by elders fight strategically and get power. Those led by hustlers fight erratically, and power often eludes them.
General Babangida may or may not have been many things. But he realised his wrong. To atone for his sin, he almost singlehandedly manipulated political events so that General Olusegun Obasanjo was released from prison and pardoned.
Then, Chief Obasanjo was persuaded to contest for the Presidency. When he said he was broke, miraculously, money came from nowhere. In 1999, Nigeria had the only election in which the two leading candidates were from the same ethnic group and geopolitical zone.
Head or tail, an Olu would have been president in 1999. Either Olusegun Obasanjo or Oluyemisi Falae.
That was General Babangida's doing. The Lukumi Yoruba know that.
And when General Obasanjo got there, he arrested, tried and imprisoned those responsible for Alhaja Kudirat's murder. Mohammed Abacha was imprisoned in Kirikiri and till today is not able to travel without restrictions.
And because he repented and atoned for his sin, he was not necessarily forgiven, but at least the political leaders of the Yoruba decided to bury the hatchet so that Yorubaland could progress and Nigeria would move forward.
At the end of the day, that is better than fighting online and offline because of your bruised ego.
Outrage is only effective if it can change your situation. If it cannot improve your state, it is noise, not news. Today, because of the Lukumis' cultural, political, and social maturity, a Lukumi Yoruba man is the President of Nigeria, and even Babangida had to rise from his wheelchair to acknowledge President Tinubu when he entered the venue.
To me, that is better than coming online to insult and attack General Babangida.

Before TINUBU escaped to exile, he visited Kudirat Abiola and told her "Alhaja, I'm leaving o, may God not forbid us from seeing ourselves again. Please leave too". But Kudirat said he wouldn't leave her husband. Both of them wept and eventually departed. Tinubu moved straight from there to a bushy border area called NADECO route created by the pioneer FRSC CEO Wole Soyinka, jumped on a motorbike and escaped from the bull£t of the most despotic leader in Nigeria's history!
I urge that you @officialABAT @PBATMediaCentre @TinubuMediaS @officialSKSM @KashimSM read the last two paragraphs. All the past national leaders and only fulfilled their personal interests by removing one another from the offices/ presidencies not minding national development.
Until we have a strong judiciary and judicial system that would hold everyone accountable and responsible for their actions regardless of their positions or where they come from, this country will remain a joke. Until we restructure this country and allow people to develop their regions and communities as they deem fit, we will continue to prioritise tribe and religion over performance and meritocracy. Until we begin to put the interest and safety of the common Nigerians at the top of our prioritise, we will continue to swim in the mud. We have to stop fooling ourselves. The question is, how long can we allow this to go on?
Our generation has the opportunity to do something different for this nation and for ourselves that will allow us to compete with other nations. We are being called a third world nation by countries that don't have 1/10 of what we have been blessed with. How can you answer a name given to us by other poor "nations"?
Nigerians deserve an apology from all the past leaders of this country at all levels for the ruins and untold injuries and injustices the Nigerian people have suffered in their hands. For the abuse and mismanagement of our resources, every child who went to bed hungry or died because of a malfunctioning health system and didn't get the opportunity to get basic education. For the failure of leadership and lack of accountability.
The time for the blame game is over. Break Nigeria down into regions and all all regions to develop and protect their communities. Nigeria is too big for man in Abuja to determine what happens in the remote parts of the country. Stop feeding the lazy governors and force them to be crazy. We have to stop this none working distributory system and shift to contributory where everyone brings something to the table.
There is great hunger for a working Nigeria, and it is our responsibility to build it.
IBB: THE SINNER WHO OUTLIVED HIS KARMA

Osibajo branded him a tormentor to his very face...
But let us not be blind to the irony—MKO and the valiant crusaders of that struggle lie cold in their graves, their voices silenced, their sacrifices long forgotten. Meanwhile, IBB walked out of that room several billions richer, with a potential Presidential Library set to immortalize his name. The lion feasts, while the gazelles of history rot in obscurity.
Such is the way of men, and as seen in Paul’s case, a style even heaven seems to recognize. My brother, in all your doings, remember—no cause is truly worth dying for. The living hold the pen, and history smiles upon those who survive to write it.
