I just upgraded a 200,000+ line Next.js codebase from version 15 to 16 in 20 minutes. New React compiler, updated TypeScript version, new production builder, and numerous legacy React packages all came along for the ride. Yet everything still works flawlessly, and the end-user experience feels noticeably snappier.

Most developers don't realize that code built to last is one of the most critical selling points of any framework. The Next.js team understands this deeply.

Customers don't care how many times you refactor your codebase. You shouldn't be using a tech stack that forces you to refactor with every major release, because that's a pure waste of time. Constant code rewrites provide an unnecessary dopamine hit while creating zero value for customers.

When I asked @augiwan why he loves Python so much, his answer had nothing to do with capabilities. He simply said: "Code I wrote 10 years ago is still running."

I still remember the early days of Vue.js, where every major release demanded extensive refactoring. Old code became obsolete, resulting in massive time and energy drain. This became such a painful experience that I entirely gave up on Vue.js and switched to React and Next.js. I realized that frameworks without longevity and strong backward compatibility are a pure gamble and waste of effort.

Don't choose your tools because of flashy new features. Pick them knowing they will outlast you. I hope @cramforce and the @nextjs team continue innovating without disrupting core APIs, so that code written in 2025 will still run smoothly in 2035.
