China simply outclassed us again. Open source IS the way AND It also aligns with China's ambitions. The whole "intelligence is a commodity" and "manufacturing is the bottleneck" thesis is alive and well. I am genuinely happy that intelligence is becoming free, but also frightened because the West is now losing a strategic advantage.

Our Kimi K3 blog is finally out. Enjoy!—and rest assured, the K3 model weights will be open in the coming day. We’re just taking a little extra time to ensure a smooth rollout with our inference partners.
Frontier intelligence belongs to everyone, without fallbacks of course. 😎
A few weeks ago I wrote a piece on the ladder every new nuclear reactor climbs and where each company in the July 4 sprint stood. The EO asked for three criticalities by Independence Day. America delivered four. 🎆
But for these reactors to get to commercial scale and start producing meaningful power, they need fuel. And until recently, America had stopped making almost everything a reactor eats.
Part 2 of America's Nuclear Summer dives into where reactor fuel actually comes from + the companies like @standardnuclear and @generalmatter racing to rebuild it.
Remember that China wields their industrial policy as the greatest non-kinetic weapon known to man.
They will get every piece of IP they can by whatever means necessary and leverage the world’s largest industrial material chain to leapfrog the original innovators while adding their spin.
The U.S. cannot afford to lose the race to space and manufacture drugs and materials in space.
If DC policymakers do not see China capturing the first stage by cables and nets as today’s ’Sputnik moment’ then what will it take to get the change in our industrial infrastructure rebirth?
@SpaceX absolutely must remain the lowest price-per-kg payload launch system or the rest of the world will flip contracts to China in a heartbeat. The CCP will subsidize launch capacity to take market share from America whose SMB industrial base cannot deliver US manufactured goods as cheaply as China can to its space industry. We have seen this in everything from drones, additive printing, space grade solar glass - and more recently in AI models.
It is clear that China will innovate around @SpaceX at breakneck speed. You see that with a cables and nets catch system.
We need serious people in DC to craft an Industrial Policy to truly reindustrialize the USA. We be massively more aggressive in controlling every material chain associated with space and that comes from supporting SMB manicures like never before.

Starship's launch clamps might be the most satisfying machine in the entire space industry. They are just so perfectly synchronised and so smooth. It's just beautiful.
TLDR, 7 ways to drop cortisol and slow the clock:

2. Cold exposure (1-3 min, 3x/wk)
3. Lift heavy (3x/wk)
4. Cool bedroom (64-67F)
5. Protein within 90 min

BREAKING: The State Department and Stanford are launching Foundry School, a new program to train Americans in advanced manufacturing.
Announced by @UnderSecE, the initiative focuses on applying AI across advanced manufacturing.
How far before Nakamoto are you looking at? If you're looking at < 2 years before mainnet release it's down all the way to the release. As a huge believer (at the time), Nakamoto was a big disappointment. Just keeping you honest here :) . Unfortunately, Nakomoto's initial release had a slew of problems and transaction throughput was extremely low. This eventually led me to stop supporting the ecosystem :/ I really believed Bitcoin L2s would be a thing, but the engineering was disappointing (also, why Clarity? It hindered dev activity and TVL. And there are are ton of cases where "better" smart contract languages get hacked anyways). Ultimately, the market doesn't care yet about L2s. Maybe in 1-2 decades, or a huge black swan event. I hope the market does come around and you prove me very very wrong but it's already difficult enough to convince people about Bitcoin. I think (and I hope to be wrong) Bitcoin L2s won't be a thing for the next decade.
