@ruima Some of it is herd mentality. But it’s also the deep rooted culture of mistrust fueled by betrayal and selfishness. SaaS is for improving transparency and leveling the playing field to breed healthy competition rather than centralizing hierarchal control via backend “monitoring”.
@ruima SaaS strifing for critical mass can’t escape the greasy paws of big tech. Once acquired or partnered up, you switch from providing value for users to protecting the bottom line of big tech kinda like Amazon or Microsoft. Upzhu then show u how to make do with inferior free clones.
@wong_jim I think context matters. My understanding is that these guidelines are recommendations and mostly relevant to technical or functional communications or formal publications and not exactly social or creative usage. The UW guide also seem more reasonable, not going as far.
@wong_jim Isn’t much to go through at all and not unreasonable to have it as a frame of reference. Is it really a bad thing to be more considerate? To those who may be hurt for the reasons included in the explanations a workplace without such a guide is likely more hostile.
@ruima My understanding:
Frontend = Content
Backend = Storage & Processing
What: canvas on cloud
Where: platforms on network infrastructure
How: on devices over servers
Dev Roadmap:
Human Input
Machine vision
Real-time hybrid
Dev Key:
F-Output display environment
B-Aggregation systems
@wong_jim That’s the point. Everyone probably will step on many of these multiple times a day. The guide provide some grounding for having a meaningful discussion about inclusion. I know it gets misused constantly for partisan politics bullshit but it’s better to have it than not.
@wong_jim The entirety of media and culture in general is pretty absurd these days. I think inclusivity is important but context also matters and appropriation can go both ways. I think the doc can be helpful in bring awareness to those who didn’t know the origins of some sayings.
@wong_jim I wonder if this sort of guide can be in a standard format that’s more A.I. friendly so we can easily filter in or out colloquial phrasing or word choices to generate periodically accurate results so past documents can be updated to current inclusive standards and vice versa.
@LombardiHimself It is what it is. I’m sure if it wasn’t called there’s be just as much grievance from the other side. And I’m sick of the “refs they allowed contact all game” take. The fact that there were calls missed before doesn’t mean that the right call shouldn’t be made later in the game.
@DannyGsix@statmuse Opinion is opinion, regardless of spelling skills. Thought it made sense phonetically and looked like an interesting way to spell it. Should have checked it though. My bad.
