@AlisonHoltBBC As a young autistic adult, I can say I had/still have very similar experiences to Molly. We have little to no support, none of which is specific to autism. It sucks. It really fucking sucks. We feel completely alone.
Autistic people are often told they have a bad attitude when their attitude is fine, they simply: don’t tolerate discrimination; value ethics over hierarchy and conformity; dislike pretence; are honest; have succinct facial expressions; and/or have meltdowns when pushed too far.
Any suggestions for how to meet and make friends irl for this autistic introvert? Just moved back from uni for the summer and I know virtually noone. It's a struggle.
I haven't been active on twitter for months, but god i just feel so alone right now. Someone tell me why there are more support groups for parents of autistic people than people that are actually autistic?
I'm so angry with the world right now. Everyone I let in, friend, family or relationship, just fucking let me down and fuck me over and traumatise me further.
Don’t know who needs to hear this, but if anyone ever says something like “talking to you makes me feel bad about myself,” run.
You are not responsible for anyone else’s feelings. However, people say that (or similar) are telling you they’ll try to make you feel like you are.
@BlueGrayPerson @NeuroRebel That's a bullshit statement. Millions of people will go their entire lifetime without a diagnosis because people are simply uneducated about autism.
@NeuroRebel I wasn't diagnosed til just before I turned 19, and by this time I had already developed severe anxiety, depression, rejection sensitive dysphoria, and gastrointestinal issues due to chronically high cortisol levels. I'd say that's too late.
@geostylegeo Because I don't believe that some old fucker in the sky is the reason that I should be a good person. I'm a good person because I choose to be for myself and the people I love, so that we live in a better world.
