Whatever you do, don't change the lightbulb.
Leave the existing lightbulb alone; add new wiring straight from the fuse box, add a new lighting fixture, and new bulb.
The wiring on the old bulb is too hard to trace, and the system is probably reliant on the old bulb not working.
