#TarletonCWF22EJ Today residential treatment centers are most common for children who need intensive care. At these centers, individuals help troubled children therapeutically. In some cases children are placed here when they’re attempting to hurt themselves or others.
@soldier0423 Hi Jensen!
I do see how traumatic adoption can be for a child. They have to endure a lot. A young child doesn’t always understand what is going on, they just see it as them being taken away from the only life they’ve ever known.
#TarletonCWF22EJ According to DFPS, more then 6,000 children who have suffered abuse or neglect are waiting for adoption. CPS adoption can be a lengthy process, ranging from possibly going back to their parents, a family member, or being adopted.
@soldier0423 I believe pregnancy is a major life event for any women, and even bigger for a teenager who is still juggling school and work. However if we are able to provide more accessible resources and information than it might make it easier on those dealing with pregnancy or preventatives
#TarletonCWF22EJ According to the CDC, teen pregnancy has greatly decreased since 1991. The exact factor is not determined, however the CDC believes it’s due to teenagers maintaining sexually abstinence and more accessible resources such as birth control.
@JimenaCarreon23@LmswJohnson It’s really interesting to hear that the way in which a child is treated can affect their physical and mental health as adults. I was fascinated with the way ACE is set up and how you can gain so much information on an individuals past with it.
#TarletonCWF22EJ According to Dr. Burke children are very sensitive to trauma because there brain is still developing. Not only can it affect them psychological but it can also affect their immune system and the health in the future as adults.
#TarletonCWF22EJ Abuse can come in many different forms. It doesn’t always have to be physical. It can include sexual, emotional or psychological, neglect in any form, etc. In 1974, the Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment act was placed to help those children in the U.S.
@JenniferEtter8@LmswJohnson I believe this is crucial, as many parents don’t have the knowledge or resources on how to be more open with their children and provide support. Social workers can make a huge difference in advocating in resilience.
#TarletonCWF22EJ During the adolescent years most teens begin experimenting with drugs and alcohol. Teens have a higher risk of becoming addicted. Many factors can contribute to substance abuse, such as peer pressure, stress, curiosity, and etc. @LmswJohnson
#TarletonCWF22EJ the causes for poverty in children can be very similar to those in adults. Issues such as financial difficulties like losing a job or death in the family. If the adult is suffering, then the child is too because children rely on us adults to provide for them.
@Chloee_sworker_ Not only can a child experience poverty later in life but they also may experience stress, anxiety, and depression due to the trauma they go through. I also believe it is important that we educate children on financials and the hardship of life and how to get through it.
