Casey Means was a Stanford-educated surgeon. Her brother Calley was a lobbyist for pharma and the food industry. Both quit their jobs in horror when they realized how many people were being killed by the systems they participated in. This is an amazing story.

Explicit instruction should happen after the students have a chance to try the math themselves. They might have a better idea. @JohnSanGiovanni#FCTM2023
My take away from @pwharris#ChangeMathClass challenge is that student understanding of subtraction is the foundation for their multiplicative thinking.. this makes so much sense in what I am seeing in math intervention. Students can't move on b/c they lack that foundation.

NC has 100 counties, 115 school systems, and hundreds of public charter schools. Each county is unique. They all need a plan, but they need their own plan. Governor, let local schools decide!
The test known as the nation’s report card show that the percentage of NC students displaying at least basic reading skills is now lower than in 2011. https://t.co/frrwGuOKIy
In my first few years as an admin, I was young and female. I felt I had something to prove. An unrecoverable mistake I made was pretending I knew everything. I thought I was supposed to have all the answers. #HackLearning
