@Vvisshu0375 @akafaceUS It's just acting, not voice acting.... Wing Commander's 3 through 5 all have live action video. Hamill did voice acting for the Wing Commander TV show playing the same character in the 12 episode animated series based on the live-action games.

@StarFoxHeroSJ @SCShipyards WC5/Prophecy - which suffers in the story + FMV production values - has some of the more fun and modern (subjective) feeling gameplay of the series. If you're just into lore you could watch all the cutscenes online, read the novels or check out the animated TV show as well.

@StarFoxHeroSJ @SCShipyards I guess it depends on how much you mind retro games and how much you miss all the quality of life changes more modern gaming has to offer. I'd say start at the beginning, but WC3 will probably be a better jumping on point for most people.

Wing Commander (1999)

I pulled it from my 90's bucket list and what I saw stunned me! It's a rare instance and the right call of the original creator Chris Roberts directing an authentic game to film adaptation.

With my cursory knowledge of PS1 games, I still see a love letter to fans. The movie is more concerned with telling a solid, self-contained story than nostalgia bait or mindless spectacle.

The multicultural cast has great chemistry w/out ever signaling superficial "diversity" or "female power". The story is simple and to the point. Photography and clever use of pratical and CGI effects conveys tense, believable space combat.

Not without flaws, The Wing Commander is probably as close as we will ever get to @MikeStackpole amazing "Rogue Squadron" book series. And it's the best video game based movie I've ever seen, without contest!

I have to credit WC fandom legend HCl with this discovery when I worked with him on the original WCNews online ship viewer. The models were untextured though so don't show up in the viewer.

@banditloaf There are some bits of other pilots in the mess hall trying to warn Blair not to rock the boat. And then not long after, Rosie is talking to Maniac while on patrol about another dead pilot. Plus, if it was policy Blair and Marshall should have learned about it before arriving

@banditloaf There's some nuance that got left on the cutting room floor too where it becomes clearer that it's not actually confed policy that the pilots have to follow. In the movie It's specifically an Angel thing that apparently Hunter is keen on following

I posted the casualty report from the Confederation Handbook a few days ago and got this excellent observation! There are actually FOUR contradictory versions of the story and while Bossman dies on Angel's wing in the original none of those details were mentioned in the movie.

@banditloaf @Berkut83 They were able to have rendered stuff displayed on all the screens during shooting even thigh they ended up replacing some of them in post production anyway

@banditloaf @Berkut83 It's also a very specific deal. They were all LCD displays before they were really a common thing for desktop pc displays. Having LCD screens was way better for filming since you avoided the scan line issues of CRTs and were easier to build into sets.
