By expanding into new areas of Senegal, AICCRA has set itself the goal of amplifying and scaling up its agricultural technologies through innovative approaches.

With the support of the Réseau des Organisations Paysannes et Pastorales du Sénégal (hashtag#RESOPP), the project has distributed improved varieties of cowpea, millet and groundnut seeds to several members of the network, in order to test and disseminate these innovations.

In Bélel Gajale, in the Kaolack region, one farmer stood out for her remarkable results. Adjia Kane, who received 3 kg of certified cowpea seed (Yacine, Sam and Baye Ngagne varieties) on a plot of just 0.25 hectares, harvested more than 100 kg of cowpea. Her success makes her a role model for her community and a lever for the local availability of improved seeds.

The ingredients of her success:

📻 Monitoring climate information broadcast by Radio Taiba FM, AICCRA's community radio partner.
🌱 Adoption of good farming practices to maximise yields.
📞 Access to personalised agricultural advice via iSAT and JOKALANTE.
🎓 Capacity-building training organised as part of the project.

NiMet DG/CEO Anosike Says Agency Is Positioned To Climate-Proofing The Economy By Providing Timely Weather And Climate Information

The Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), Prof. Charles Anosike, has said that the agency is positioned to climate proofing the economy by providing timely weather and climate information.

Prof. Anosike spoke while welcoming participants to a one-day workshop on ‘Understanding the landscape of agro-meteorological data resources and processes for facilitating climate smart agriculture adoption’ jointly hosted by NiMet and the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI), in Abuja on
Monday, 18th November 2024.

According to Prof. Anosike, “This is an important workshop that is aimed at building resilience among smallholder farmers and livestock keepers to increase productivity by Identifying adaptation options, best practices, and adaptation gaps for smallholder farmers”.

Anthony Whitbread, Program leader, of livestock, climate, and environment at ILRI and one of the workshop facilitators said the workshop will improve the capacity of the participants, and help to identify gaps in information needs, data gathering, and the process of delivery of information to the last mile including gender and social inclusion.

A dynamic strengthened by strategic partnerships

Following AICCRA's efforts, with the support of the hashtag#IRI, the US State Department's University Partnerships Initiative joined this dynamic by funding the adaptation of the CRMAE program in Senegalese universities. This partnership has enabled USSEIN to become the first institution to officially integrate these new courses into its academic program.
