Kinda torn on this. I don’t think a night shift as a med student is necessary to learn how to practice medicine. However, I think it can be helpful as a way to foster compassion for your fellow physicians. Seeing the chief surgery resident fall asleep mid procedure note after operating all night left an impression on me. Maybe it’s a good idea to show a med student going into internal medicine or emergency med what surgery residents are dealing with and vice versa.
That doesn’t mean a student has to work more than 14 straight hours. How about a night shift surrounded by days off? We need to understand each other’s work lives a little better, so we can be nicer, more understanding colleagues. Med school is the perfect time for that to happen before we all get lost in our own specialties.
Goodnight Pac-12 football
You were so loved.
For every bonkers call made by a Pac-12 ref
For every INSANE After Dark game that exploded in a chaos no slumbering East coast writer would see
For 100+ years of in-state rivalries like Washington vs Wazzu or U$C vs Integrity
RIP
Anesthesiologists tend to minimize the miracles they do every day. Maybe because there are thousands of others who are doing the same thing. These words from "The Vicar of Wakefield'" should be on view in their offices.
Another #pocus case in action.
Young male presents to the hospital with shortness of breath and left thigh pain. Initial concern was a PE.
You ask to see his thigh and he shows you this:
As a new faculty, I was given protected research time.
But still...could never bring myself to write.
My old excuse, "no protected time," was no longer valid.
I hadn't trained myself to write.
Here's the steps I used to build a writing habit when "writing was not my thing".🖊️
We are pleased to have produced a new eLearning programme in partnership with @NHSE_TEL and @APAGBI to help manage and reduce procedure-induced anxiety in children. The programme is a valuable resource for anyone working with or caring for children. https://t.co/EFFGbmDmOK
As we countdown to Match Day, I want you to meet Dr. Kevin Jon Williams.
For nearly 20 years, he fought for - and eventually won - a student-optimal matching algorithm.
It’s one of the great stories of advocacy in Match history… and the NRMP refuses to acknowledge it.

Did you know this week marks 2 of the biggest anniversaries in American history?
Don't worry; it's not your fault. This story may be illegal in your state but 155 years ago this week...
Or 75 years ago...
Black South Carolinians invented the American education system
A thread
I shoulda reupped this a couple of days ago.
Oh, and Mrs. Gaywood? Her name was Mary.
There are other names I'd add to the list: Mary Lynch, of the Pewter Mug, NYC; Lucy Ann Caldwell, of New Orleans, etc. etc.
