Get good with iron sights. Especially with rifles. Scopes break, electronic sights just quit. Being able to fire a handgun and hit center of mass at 25 feet with iron sights at 200 yards or more with a rifle will not only save your life it also keeps protein on the menu in hard times.

My smartest dog, female Doberman. Most demanding was a Belgian Malenois. She was so protective over her family, Angel,my kids called her "Angel of Death" It was guaranteed anyone who broke into the house was going to die. The most lovable ones were the 3 Black Labs I had. The last one died of Canine Epilepsy. He was such a perfect dog. It was tragic, I still grieve and miss him after several years.

50cents full service in late 73 where I lived and about 43cents for self. By 78 it had gone to $1.00. I was pumping gas, and fixing tires for a whopping $2.00 an hour, part time, still in school. 50c in Jan of 1973 adjusted for inflation is now $3.60 a gallon. Two dollars an hour is about $14.00

@GmaIndiana Unless you worked at a gas station. Everyday was full tank day. The other option was fill the tank if a car was brought in for service. Buy a new battery or oil change, tuneup, etc and we'd also fill the tank even if it wasnt their day and even if there was a ten gallon limit.

@TwilightUmbrage Some new cars will do 180+. Ridden 160+ mph in a 1967 corvette. If it was accurate at that speed. Most older cable mechanical speedos are not. Driven about 155 Again if the speedo was accurate. Owned a Turbo Dodge Daytona it would top out at 145. Verified by cars following twice

I highly recommend the HBO documentary,
"The Man Will Burn"
It is about the Burning Man event it's history and what it has evolved into.
It is 4 segments long and you can binge watch it in one setting. For some us reading this, we saw many people we know. For me, some are close friends that are involved with event production. Some are senior staff and board members. I already miss them dearly.
The worst for me is missing the memorial service of my long time friend Brain Doherty the former senior editor of Reason Magazine and author of the book, "This is Burning Man, Rise of the New American Underground". If you know me personally, he graciously listed me in the acknowledgements after an hours long conversation while he was writing it.
As I mentioned before. This year is the first year in 25 straight that I am not going back to Burning Man. (Not counting 2020). It was my choice. I could go back in 2026. That remains an option. I have found it interesting breaking routines that take up my time for the first 3 weeks of August. One entering Home Depot and not heading straight to the electrical section to buy parts for the camp power grid. Or buying trailer tires for the generator or travel trailer.
I have driven the highway from southern Arizona up the western edge of Nevada and into Black Rock Desert 54 times which means close to 50,000 miles in a RV or truck pulling a trailer. This is about 5000 gallons of gasoline or diesel. Probably more.
Burning Man can become a huge commitment to time and money. It is a CULTURE in its self without the Cult part.
Please do watch that documentary to get a glimpse what it is and is not. Depending on playa conditions and general weather forecasts, I may go back. But for now I have other time and project commitments that would exclude a trip this year whether I planned to go or not.
