Uganda Unveils State-of-the-Art Polio Genomics Facility
Dr. Kasonde Mwinga - @WHOUganda Country Representative to Uganda: This is more than a structure; it's a beacon of scientific excellence, and it's a promise that no child should suffer to wait in fear because services are delayed.
At the National Immunization Symposium this afternoon, I underscored five priorities to strengthen Uganda’s immunization programme: defining sustainable financing needs with measurable milestones; mobilizing public and private sector partners to expand investment; improving efficiency, accountability and value for money; empowering leaders at all levels to champion immunization; and deepening community engagement to ensure every eligible child is reached.
Immunization is a shared responsibility. Together, we can build a healthier, more productive Uganda by ensuring equitable access to life-course immunization for all.
Today I launched the National Immunization Symposium. Uganda's immunization package now has 14 antigens compared to 6 more that 30 years ago. Immunization remains the biggest and most effective public health intervention for disease prevention.
Over 1,000 residents of the Entebbe Corridor recieved immunization and integrated health services including Antenatal Care, Family Planning, Deworming, HIV Testing and Counselling among others.
A total of 11 children who had never been immunized received the necessary vaccines to protect them from Vaccine Preventable Diseases.
