A10: I loved looking at the landscape maps! I will be sharing them with my math class on Monday night to see what they have to say about it. Thanks! 🙂 #elemmathchat
@pearse_margie The definition they have on the map is one word for every object which reminds me of one to one tagging. That makes sense why one to one tagging is next to it.
A4: I like how each shape is touching something else to show that it can be related or connected easily to others. I’m wondering if they can be placed in a way that show the most connections. #elemmathchat
@RawdingMolly@mathhombre I was also interested in the color-coding idea! For students who need more of a difference that would really help while for others the shapes are still there. Great thought!
@KnappMelinda I love your analogy that learning is like a web. That makes so much sense! We may learn something first and then a month later learn something new but being able to make that connection between them is such a big step.
A1: I do see students fitting into the more “linear path”. However, getting students to realize they can go off the path and learn differently or pull ideas from earlier on is something that helps students more. #elemmathchat
A4: In my future classroom I would love students to be free to explore with mathematics and tools. Creating their own learning benefits them more. Encouraging students to make mistakes and learn is something I will strive for in my class! #OCTMchat
@chrissybug24@WODBMath I have recently been introduced to this from @BaileyJodie! I love how it brings out the creative and communication side of students.
A3: I find that PBL’s and allowing students to choose groups based on interest benefit students more than placing students based on their ability. However, I have not had a lot of experience so I am eager to here others responses!
A2: De-tracking students allows for mixed abilities and students to learn from each other. Seeing students learn from other students is a great vicarious experience for them! #octmchat
Hi there! My name is Bailey Brown & I’m in the early childhood education departmental Otterbein University. As a student I was placed in the advanced classes but I never saw myself good at math. However, I was good at other subjects & we were always put together #octmchat
