The Senior Presidential Advisor on Diaspora Affairs and Head of the State House Diaspora Unit, Mr. Mohammed Bagonza, has urged diaspora returnees to embrace commercial agriculture and other income-generating enterprises as they reintegrate into Ugandaโs economy.
Bagonza, who is also Patron of the United Returnees Organisation Uganda (@UNITEDRETURNEES), made the remarks on Tuesday while serving as Guest of Honour at UROโs first-ever poultry farming seminar held at the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development in Kampala.
The training brought together more than 70 diaspora returnees and was aimed at equipping participants with practical knowledge and opportunities to establish sustainable poultry enterprises.
The seminar was facilitated by Mr. Rahul Patidar, Chairman and Managing Director of Bio Agro Ventures Limited. Under a proposed initiative, URO members will have access to poultry chicks, starting from 100 birds and above, on credit, with arrangements for the subsequent purchase of mature birds to provide a structured market for beneficiaries.
Bagonza said poultry farming can provide returnees with opportunities for employment, income generation and wealth creation when approached as a business.
He encouraged participants to work collectively, strengthen networking, share knowledge and develop markets rather than operating in isolation.
โReturning home should not mean returning to uncertainty. It should be an opportunity to put the skills, experience, networks and resources acquired abroad to productive use here in Uganda,โ Bagonza said.
He further encouraged returnees with larger investment proposals to explore financing opportunities through the Uganda Development Bank (@UDB_Official) and other appropriate financial institutions.
The Head of Liaison and Partnerships at the Unit, Mr. @TopherMatsiko, advised returnees seeking substantial financing to first engage prospective financiers, understand their requirements and ensure their proposals meet the necessary conditions before seeking institutional recommendations.
Bagonza said the Diaspora Unit would continue supporting initiatives that facilitate the successful social and economic reintegration of Ugandans returning home. #UgandaDiaspora
