Status: Ultra Mega Power Project from Maharashtra government — soft incentives for development
Land & Coal Linkage
Land allotted: 1,650 acres by Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation
Coal mine: Bhandak West coal mine allotted
Coal linkage: from Coal India
EPC orders target: December 2026 financial closure and placement

Future expansion: dimethyl ether (LPG blending), urea, sustainable aviation fuel, ethanol
Carbon dioxide: treated as monetisable entity, not a problem — unlike power or steel plants
Strategy: 80–90% local equipment sourcing targeted
Policy Tailwind — Cabinet's ₹37,500 Crore Scheme
Cabinet's ₹37,500 crore coal gasification incentive scheme (announced Wednesday) directly supports this project
Scheme has potential to attract ₹3 trillion in total investment into coal-to-chemicals ecosystem
West Asia crisis exposing India's import dependence on key fuel inputs — prompting policy push to reignite coal gasification investor interest
Core Theme
New Era Cleantech is the first large private mover on India's coal gasification ambition — with equity tied up, viability gap funding secured, land and coal linkage in place, and the Cabinet's ₹37,500 crore incentive scheme providing the policy backdrop, the December 2026 EPC order target makes this a tangible near-term milestone in India's coal-to-chemicals strategy; the multi-product approach covering ammonia, urea, SAF, and ethanol — combined with treating CO2 as a revenue stream — reflects a sophisticated attempt to hedge the high capex risk that has historically kept private capital away from coal gasification projects.
The scheme for Promotion of Surface Coal/Lignite Gasification Projects that has been cleared by the Cabinet will further energy security, boost investment and create job opportunities for the youth. It will add strength to our efforts to strengthen the tech and innovation system as well.

VIDEO | The industry players on Wednesday welcomed the enhanced policy support for coal gasification and described it as a bold, timely and strategic intervention at a crucial geopolitical moment for global energy and commodity markets.
#WATCH | Delhi | On PM Narendra Modi’s appeal amid the West Asia conflict, New Era Cleantech Founder and MD, Balasaheb Darade, says, "... We strongly welcome and congratulate the government's decision in such a crucial time of energy crisis and geopolitical situation. This is going to be one of the historic decisions for the country in making it 'Atmanirbhar' in the energy sector... This is the right choice right now, so we are not dependent on any other country, and other places don't become a choke point for a country of 1.4 billion for its food security, fertiliser security and all kinds of business that are impacted because of this."

Powering Maharashtra with a New Era of Clean Industry in Chandrapur
Glad to be present at the bhoomipujan and stone plaque unveiling of New Era Cleantech's Integrated Coal Gasification (Coal-to-Chemicals) and carbon capture project, and Greta Energy Ltd. Integrated Green Steel Plant, along with Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy, at Chandrapur.
Under the visionary leadership of Hon PM Narendra Modi Ji, India is adopting world-class technologies for the responsible and sustainable use of mineral resources. At present, 7 coal gasification projects have been initiated across the country, of which 4 are in Maharashtra, particularly in Vidarbha.
The New Era Cleantech facility envisions using coal gasification technology to produce urea, industrial chemicals, gases and substitute gas for LPG, contributing to cleaner energy solutions. At the same time, Greta Energy has undertaken a major initiative to produce green steel, with Gadchiroli envisioned as a future steel hub. This initiative will play a transformative role in industrial development.
Maharashtra continues to attract more industries and accelerate growth through investments in industry and the service sector.

Davos, Switzerland: Founder and Managing Director, New Era Cleantech, Balasaheb Darade says, "Davos is a confluence of innovation, policy, investors, and new developments. And we have seen that this year, the sustainability, green energy, and energy security, and geopolitics around it is a very important discussion that has been happening. And we at New Era, we are working on one of India's ambitious projects on coal gasification and carbon capture, green hydrogen, sustainable aviation fuels. So as you know, India last year imported about 87% of oil and more than 50% of gas. We don't have enough of oil and gas. Only natural resource and abundance we have is coal. And we are working on converting this coal to syngas in a sustainable and environmentally friendly way to make a gas. And once you have a gas, then we can make hydrogen, ammonia, ethanol, methanol, SAF. So in coal gasification, we are doing the partial oxidation and capturing CO2..."
