So something interesting that could be developing at the UN: Ukraine appears to be laying the groundwork to challenge whether the Russian Federation is the legitimate successor to the USSR’s seat and veto on the Security Council
⚠️Horrifying—UK🇬🇧 is now on the brink of unable to do more blood tests because of critical shortage of blood draw tubes. Not just for #COVID19 but for all clinical tests for any disease/condition. This is worse than running out of ventilators. Is this Brexit or govt incompetence?
About the growth advantage of the Delta (first found in India) variant over Alpha (first found in the UK). Lots has been written about this with many different opinions, but let's take a look at this graph: (thread: 1/n)
⚠️“5-10 seconds” is all one needs to transmit the #DeltaVariant, warns Queensland 🇦🇺 health officer, that it **no longer takes up o 15 minutes** to pass on #COVID19. It can be a "fleeting moment" of seconds. It indeed happened *thrice* at shopping mall.🧵

More & more evidence accruing that SARS-CoV-2 causes significant persistent effects on the brain. We now have multiple strands supporting this-
-long-term symptoms-brain fog, memory loss
-higher risk of stroke/neuro diseases
-structural brain changes
-virus persistence in brain🧵
Not good—a #COVID19 outbreak kills 2 staffers in @ManateeGov Florida & hospitalized 3 others, forcing closure of building. 1 of 4 hospitalized staff died. 1 other died at home just 1 day after doctor visit. All were “non-elderly” staff.🧵

BREAKING—CDC now officially declares #DeltaVariant a “variant of concern”—because much more transmissible (50% faster than #B117, 2x than original strain), more severe (2.5x hospitalization risk than B117, 4x original) & 1 dose vaccine evasive.🧵 #COVID19

PAY ATTENTION—the #DeltaVariant is the biggest worry & becoming more dominant worldwide. Why?
📍More contagious
📍More severe (⬆️hospitalization risk)
📍Lower vaccine efficacy/neutralization—1 dose just not enough.

14 year gymnast who trained 4 hours a day—now cut down by #LongCovid… now her heart races. Her body aches. She gets winded climbing stairs and feels dizzy when she changes position. Concentrating on schoolwork is difficult & exhausting in person. #COVID19

Troubling—the worst variant to date, the #DeltaVariant is now the new fastest growing variant in US. This is the so-called “Indian” variant #B16172 that is ravaging UK 🇬🇧 despite high vaccinations because it has immune evasion properties. Here is why it’s trouble—🧵. #COVID19
📍3rd WAVE “HAS BEGUN”—UK 🇬🇧 might scrap lifting #COVID19 restrictions for June, as a senior government adviser said the country was in the early stages of a third wave amid “exponential growth” in #B16172 variant accounting for 3/4 of cases.
https://t.co/SLvjnTbyLs
📍BREAKING—Hospitalizations for #COVID19 has spiked up 72% in just 8 days, according to latest UK 🇬🇧 govt data. This follows a surge in #B16172 cases. Deaths have also begun to increase. UK is among the most vaccinated countries, with ~57% with at least 1 dose, and 35% fully.🧵
⚠️PAY ATTENTION to rising #B16172 crisis in UK—crucial because India variant affects us all. It is now ~50% of all cases in England, surging fast, especially in kids. Hospital #COVID19 ward in Bolton🇬🇧 filling up. “It’s too late to contain” @chrischirp 🧵
https://t.co/s93Ub29acb
⚠️FASTER TRANSMISSION warning from UK🇬🇧 govt of #B16172 variant—“confident that B16172 is more transmissible than #B117, & realistic possibility that #B16172 could be 50% more transmissible & would lead to a substantial resurgence of hospitalisations.”🧵

A ver, @ManuelBartlett fue de nuevo hoy a la mañanera a intentar confundir a la gente. Deberé responder cada una de estas cosas. Así es que ahí les va hilo.
When talking about covid, I wish folks would use probabilities instead of just saying "safe" or "not safe". No need to be precise. They can just ballpark it. 1 in 10 chance of death, 1 in 100, etc. I think this would reduce the number of stupid arguments substantially.
