Some of the things I admire (add yours in quote):
The patience of cigarette smokers in any situation, for as long as there is a cigar to smoke.
The patience of preschool teachers.
The restraint of people who have a lot to say but choose peace.
The resilience of older Nigerian single mothers who raised 3 kids on petty trading and cooperative loans, sent them through university and still managed to build house.
The confidence of people who enter a mall, pick everything they need without checking price and head towards the counter with their card.
The resilience of Nigerian parents who can raise three children, pay school fees, feed a family and still ask you why you haven’t married.
The commitment of people who queue for hours at a government office without knowing whether the civil servant they’re waiting to see is even at work.
The emotional intelligence of market women who can insult you, your ancestors and your entire lineage, then smile and ask if you want a nylon bag.
The courage of people who send “Good morning, dear” to someone of the opposite sex who ignored their last seven messages.
The faith of Nigerians.
The discipline of people who go to the gym every morning only to gist and play tennis/snooker.
The audacity of people who say “Let me be honest with you” before lying through their teeth.
Happy World Teachers’ Day! 🍎
Today is a chance to celebrate the educators who plan, adapt, encourage, reteach, listen, notice, and keep showing up for students every day.
So much of teaching happens in moments that never make it onto a lesson plan, but those moments matter just as much.
To every teacher making a difference in ways both big and small, thank you. ❤️
