I saw a post on Reddit that said that “The underlying purpose of AI is to allow wealth to access skill while removing from the skilled the ability to access wealth.” And I don’t think I’ve ever seen AI described so incisively.
When I was young I thought things were bad because solutions were complicated, and now I’m older and realize things are bad because the solutions are often simple, but they would inconvenience affluent people, or those who aspire to be, and religious fanatics.

I cannot relate to anybody who doesn’t feel like an insane person doing a facade of normalcy these days. I walk around looking at strangers and wonder “are you doing a facade as well? Are you going insane the same way I am?” I cannot disguise my disconnect with the “sane” world.
reminder that there actually are developing and even proven solutions to most of the existential issues facing humanity and the only thing between us and those solutions is a class of ppl who are intentionally-obfuscating that info to keep ppl feeling hopeless. don’t buy into it.
Fahrenheit 451 ends with a few characters waiting for nuclear bombs to fall and agreeing to memorize important literary classics so that they can survive the coming dark age.
It’s less a book about censorship than idiocracy - the implication is that the people who want books outlawed and burned, who do it not because they threaten the political order but just because they “make you feel bad,” are unfit for self-governance and have mismanaged themselves at long last into a civilization-destroying war whose purpose they do not even understand.
This cultural strain in our society has been around longer than people recognize.
