TURKEY’S FUND CRISIS TOOK A MUCH MORE SERIOUS TURN.

Authorities have now ordered 130 investment funds run by seven asset managers to be shut down.

The funds covered by the wider action hold around $21.4 billion, involving roughly 353,000 investors.

And now the crisis has turned into a legal crackdown.

A senior manager at Tera Portföy has been detained in a separate investigation into suspected stock manipulation.

Regulators also referred 38 people to prosecutors and banned them from trading for two years.

One stock at the center of the investigation, Destek Finans, is still up more than 300% this year, despite falling sharply from its July peak.

Turkey is now taking emergency steps to stabilize markets, including temporarily cutting margin requirements from 35% to 20%.
