Pledge to dump back-to-school night next year. Instead, have a celebration b4 school starts. No academic conversations. No "school" information. Just get to know people. Say hello. Ask them about their children or their culture. Build a relationship first. School stuff later.

Consider a meet the family night instead of a meet the teacher night, home visits during a non-instructional start up day or PD day,a community canvas Instead of a staff meeting, a cooking for cohesion experience over lunch hour. All higher impact, but not more teacher time.
