China's economy is dead.
โ Navigating the job market as a Software Engineer in Europe is relatively straightforward, but how does the landscape differ in China? ๐จ๐ณ

@samcraigjohnson What I have seen work as well with this is that team are on-call for what they write. Of course, code quality is not equal amount of incidents. But there is correlation.
@pretentiouswhat They actually donโt need much to be creative. Being outside, the sea, sun, woods, fields, other children. Children can be very creative with minimal input. Experiences in malls usually offer overburdening experiences.
@pretentiouswhat While there certainly seems to be a market for children amusement in malls in China, coming from Europe, I cannot say that I like or appreciate this development. Where I come from there is much more focus to provide outside activities and spaces for children.
@pretentiouswhat These experiences are provided by the government. What I have seen in Shanghai and north China so far with regards to how children spend their time, was usually driven by economic interests and mostly indoors.
I strongly believe children should make lots of experiences outside.
Cultural differences ๐ฉ๐ช๐จ๐ณ
People in Shanghai already wish you a Happy New Year days before New Yearโs eve. I believe this is a sin in Germany.
Shanghai during Chinese New Year feels almost like a ghost town. So many people vanish and travel back home.
While I enjoy the quietness, it is sad to see that most of Shanghai exists for people coming here for work. Theyโd rather be somewhere else.
@LeaningEmma What helped him was making friendship with the dog of my wife who did not face trauma. He grew so much more confident together with his friend. He feels much more secure with this guy being around that gives him the feeling that he will be protected when shit hits the fan.
@LeaningEmma I got mine from Spain when he was one year old. He probably was a Christmas gift and became too complicated when growing up. He was found on the streets.
He was very anxious when I got him. He is now over 12 years old. He still prefers being inside or under things.
@jaapgrolleman On that article picture I especially like the view of the countryside. Havenโt seen that for a while being in Shanghai. This is what I miss the most.
@samcraigjohnson I am currently working on a bigger, 2 1/2 year old React project. Regularly it feels over-engineered to me and much to complex. Everything feels cramped into one container. Nesting of components feels ugly.
@PauliMdt@jaapgrolleman Oh, Chinese religiously wash their underwear separately. And I thought this is just a thing in my Chinese part of the family. ๐

@chris__pc I can second the general sentiment. I also feel mostly welcome and most people I get in contact with are very interested and friendly. So, on a personal level definitely, global politics is a different topic though. And I feel this is what makes people feel not welcome.
