Build Canada, a project by prominent business leaders released a memo for a Canadian Sovereign Wealth Fund, financed by natural resources, windfall taxes, and a temporary 1% consumption levy, that distributes a Canada Dividend to citizens.

"A national fund with shared contributions and transparent benefits will unite Canadians, ensuring everyone—regardless of region, postal code, or generation—shares in the country’s collective success."

They envision it could grow to $500B within 10 years, with a long-term goal of ranking among the world’s top five sovereign wealth funds by 2050.

"Starting in year 6, 20% of the Fund’s earnings will be paid out annually to all Canadians."

“This Fund belongs to Canadians—not to politicians—and it will work for Canadians, forever.

This is our chance to turn Canada’s natural wealth into a permanent economic engine. Just as past generations built the roads, bridges, and institutions we depend on today, we now have the opportunity—and responsibility—to build the financial foundation for a stronger, more secure future for all.”

The time has come to act on these ideas.
