This is a huge deal. Starting in 2028, Virginian workers will be eligible for up to 12 weeks of paid leave - and it’s a benefit that’s not tied to a specific employer. Very grateful to @BrianaSewellVA and @JenniferBoysko along with other GA members for leading the way on this.
Absurd and inhuman violence is spreading ferociously through the sacred places of the Christian East, profaned by the blasphemy of war and the brutality of business, with no regard for people’s lives, which are considered at most collateral damage of self-interest. But no gain can be worth the life of the weakest, children, or families. No cause can justify the shedding of innocent blood.
The American people rightly do not want a war with Iran.
President Trump’s war is not smart, it is not legal, it is not morally right, and it is not in our national interest.
The risk to our servicemembers, citizens, and allies which it creates is not justified by Iran’s threat to our own security, and the threat of a wider conflict that destabilizes the region is significant.
Recent history has shown repeatedly that wars in the Middle East are far easier to begin than they are to finish. 1/4
His words ring particularly true in our current environment.. And his legacy lives on in the generations of public health and clinical professionals who work to advance health equity around the world. 🌍
Saddened to read about the passing of William Foege, a public health giant who helped eradicate smallpox.
Twenty years ago, as a group of medical students working on a global health publication, we were thrilled when Dr. Foege agreed to write an essay—“Seeing the World”—for us.
In it, he challenged us to recognize that the deaths of children from preventable causes are not inevitable, but moral failures rooted in apathy and omission—and that the greatest harm often comes not from what we do wrong, but from what we choose not to do.

Health care costs now Americans’ top financial worry.
Rising costs — especially after expiration of ACA enhanced tax credits — are shaping how many voters plan to cast their ballots in the 2026 midterms.

Out-of-pocket spending — which doesn’t include how much people pay towards premiums — increased in 2024, averaging $1,632 per capita.

States are starting to cut Medicaid as revenues fall and federal cuts loom, making lots of different cuts to spread the pain and ease the politics. But work requirements and the $1T in federal Medicaid cuts have not hit yet. https://t.co/1S6EJr9sJP
While important to extend enhanced ACA subsidies to assist families, we must also do more to tackle underlying problem -- the unsustainably high cost of healthcare in the US.

Something I think gets lost in the debate over ACA enhanced premium tax credits: 65% of ACA marketplace enrollees have incomes under 200% of the poverty level ($31,300 for a single person). These are folks who make too much for Medicaid but don't have access to employer coverage.
How will it affect family budgets if the ACA enhanced tax credits are not extended?
For lower income (23k) the increase alone is a quarter of what they spend on food. More moderate income (80k), well more than 2x their food budget.

Hundreds of thousands of Virginians may lose coverage due to the reconciliation bill.
I spoke with @wamu885@NPR about what this means for our safety net providers and patients.

NEW: The CDC shooting was much worse than initially reported. 181 rounds. 150 windows hit. Staff are furious at RFK Jr. and Trump becuz their long-running fears about anti-vax rhetoric turning deadly seem to be vindicated. @LaurenWeberHP + Me. https://t.co/kI7Dn1S5lt
It haunts me to think that the world let this happen and the US not only stood by but provided arms and diplomatic support. So much loss of life and destruction.
