For my doctoral thesis focusing on biomarker testing in oncology, I have partnered with the @ACCCBuzz to survey oncology professionals regarding IO and biomarkers. The survey is paid for the first 100 responses and closes Fri! Leave me a comment and I'll send the link .
James Van Der Beek died at 48 from colorectal cancer.
We’re still diagnosing this disease too late — especially in younger people outside routine screening windows.
Early detection saves lives.
Know your family history.

On Cancer Biomarker Awareness Day we think about the divide between the biomarker discovery and its application in clinical practice. @TheLancetOncol commission publication highlights the important divide of discovery and new technologies and how we work to bridge that gap.
Ok so as a GI oncologist I feel like I’m the last doctor who should be seeing a patient with colon cancer
While not entirely preventable, we are also not nearly at our targets for screening, even in the era when it can be done non-invasively with highly sensitive stool testing
Breaking News Coverage:
This is a must watch.
Nobody, but absolutely nobody, speaks with such moral clarity, courage and conviction like the incredible @Erin_Molan of @SkyNewsAust.
Thank you for your words, your strength and for speaking out about it to the world.
If only the whole world were more like @Erin_Molan.
@elonmusk While on paper a law may provide for “life saving” treatment with respect to abortion, there is abundant evidence that practitioners aren’t comfortable providing care if something is left to interpretation. I had an ectopic pregnancy. The ER doc refused to treat.
I’ve received 4 major media requests in the 2h since #KateMiddleton announced her #cancer diagnosis. I have declined them all. She has not revealed what type or stage of cancer she has, & any dr, including oncologists such as myself, appearing on the news would be speculating. /1
I'm being bombarded by questions (quite understandably) about why any patient would undergo chemotherapy if a surgery had successfully removed their cancer
I struggled to come to the same understanding when I was first being trained as an oncologist
A THREAD
@JetBlue - when the inbound flight from San Diego is delayed over an hour, you should announce the delay before 5am, an hour before our flight was to take off. An hour and a half delayed, finally boarded my flight. I could have slept another hour.
UTTERLY ABSURD
Colonoscopy is both screening (sometimes) and prevention (if a polyp is removed before it can become malignant)
It needs to be *more* accessible, not less
As a GI oncologist I am the LAST doctor that should meet a person with colon cancer, not the first 😞 😡
Cigna uses an automated system that allows “medical directors” (doctors employed by @Cigna) to deny a claim in 1.2 seconds without opening the patient’s file.
Please read this, share it, and help us (metaphorically) burn these companies to the ground.
@mayatmiller @PunkrockPM @DGlaucomflecken@UHC I heard the preliminary discussion on @NPR yesterday. I think there is so much more to it than just denials - there was a brief mention of prior authorizations. Not to mention the relationship between insurance and hospital billing practices - it’s extreme.
@AmericanAir you have a section in your customer service automatic contact for confirmation of cancellation for trip insurance - with a response time of 7-10 days knowing full well that customers need to file claims within 7 days. No chat agent can help. Shame on you.
There’s a lot of discussion about the sensitivity of this test - and while lower than the current standard of stool screening, the marked uptick in completion of screening is a massive benefit and needs to be weighed. Early screening is key for early detection #colorectalcancer
Today we announced positive results from the ECLIPSE study for our blood test for the detection of colorectal cancer. Read the press release: https://t.co/LBRQBuM2Dx
Eileen was an unstoppable force. She never let her cancer stop her until she lost her lengthy battle. She was an inspiration and role model, and we all miss her. Donations can be made here: https://t.co/Ha3jx4UBjk
So honored to be present for the dedication of the the Eileen Youtie Predisposition Syndrome Initiative - an effort continuing the work of an amazing woman who fought to educate about #BRCA while fighting her own cancer battle - and work at @SylvesterCancer.
