Today, I was in the Office of the Vice President, His Excellency, Senator Kashim Shettima, GCON for the formal handover and finalization for the takeoff of the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia, Kaduna State. The Hon. Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa handed over the documents of the institution to Vice President Shettima, who in turn handed them to me.
Speaking at the high level meeting where the handover was formalized, Vice President Shettima, who represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR stated that this milestone is part of the government's broader commitment to enhancing access to quality education, fostering innovation in applied sciences, and strengthening Nigeria's educational system. He added that the establishment of the Federal University of Applied Sciences in Kachia is in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly its focus on education reform, youth empowerment, and human capital development.
The Vice President stated that President Tinubu is deeply encouraged by our administration's inclusive and people -centred approach to governance and the massive infrastructural development taking place in Kaduna State. He will therefore continue to give all the support needed for us to sustain the current pace of development. Vice President Shettima further disclosed that President Tinubu allocated funds in the 2025 Budget for the smooth takeoff of the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia. The institution will commence academic activities in September 2025.
In my remarks at the meeting, I stated that the establishment of the university would bring immense benefits to Kaduna state at large. I am optimistic that the new university would create job opportunities for local residents, attract investments, and reduce educational disparity by providing access to affordable and quality tertiary education.
I assured the Federal Government of Kaduna State's full cooperation in ensuring a seamless transition and sustainable operations of the new university. In the next seven days, I will hand over the Certificate of Occupancy for the university to the Hon. Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa.
