This makes no iota of sense. B'cos a spoilt rich kid can call their elderly gatemen by their 1st name, justifies why anybody should do dat to a rich or poor elderly person. No useless policy makes you call a chairman of a group by their 1st name. Wise up, he is not ur colleague
Yesterday, a senior management official at @UBAGroup reached out to me regarding my views on the treatment of the young woman in UBA’s Graduate Management Accelerated Programme (GMAP) who addressed @TonyOElumelu by his first name.
I made it clear that, in my view, this was not a “culture clash”; it was a class war, a reflection of the deeply entrenched hierarchy and class consciousness that too often determines who is considered entitled to demand deference and who is expected to provide it.
I gave a simple example, if Tony @TonyOElumelu son or daughter addressed the family gateman or driver by his first name, hardly any Nigerian would bat an eyelid.
In fact, many of the same people outraged by this young woman calling him “Tony” would probably expect the gateman or driver to address Elumelu’s children with exaggerated deference. That tells you immediately that this argument is not really about “African culture” or respect. It is about class, status, wealth and power, about who society permits to speak casually to whom.
More importantly, I specifically requested that, given the enormous public opprobrium, ridicule, and attacks this young woman has been subjected to, UBA must immediately provide her with appropriate psychosocial support.
Whatever anyone thinks about how she addressed @TonyOElumelu, no young employee or trainee should be left alone to absorb the psychological consequences of suddenly becoming the target of a massive public controversy.
She should not be sacrificed on the altar of corporate hierarchy or social-media outrage. Her dignity, welfare and mental well-being must come first. Let the poor breathe!
@ayoadeba@allofi@sowore@UBAGroup@TonyOElumelu People are missing something, corporate standards dictate addressing your colleagues up to the CEO level by their first name, not the Non-Executives you don't see everyday. Like the group Chairman! Aah!
@ayoadeba@EromSeeyr@sowore@UBAGroup@TonyOElumelu Thank you o. I don't understand why people are assuming rich kids are not cultured. Lack of home training can emerge from anywhere just as we are seeing.
@Royal_Rozvi@emmany24@sowore@UBAGroup@TonyOElumelu Nah!! A CEO is an executive of the company, involved in the day to day activities of the company. A Non-Executive that you don't see everyday in the company is not your colleague that you see suddenly and call by their first name.
@emmany24@Ayoade1Mc@sowore@UBAGroup@TonyOElumelu Many people hav'nt worked in proper corporate organisations and experienced how this first name thing works in practice. If there is such policy, you call your colleagues by their first name. You don't open your mouth, call a Non-Executive who is the group Chairman by his first
@sowore@UBAGroup@TonyOElumelu I agree with Sowore on most issues, but not on this matter. He doesn't need to be defending bad manners just to prove he's different from the corrupt political class. Rudeness is not part of African culture 🇳🇬 Not every trivial issue is a class war Mr Sowore. Focus please!

@DrJoeAbah Before I got married, I made my foods myself so I understand the stress involved and can't subject anyone else to that if I'm not paying them. Thank God for fridges and freezers that help preserve food. No one should be making food everyday except restaurants and caterers.
@etinosasere_jay @Itsololade_@_Debbie_OA All marriages have their hiccups. However, with sensible people they will surmount all obstacles and at least live peacefully. Now, imagine marrying a silly person.
@Lorde_Em It is the entitlement mentality of our people. If you could give xyz, there must be more then why not give me enough. 'Ore ni won' (literally, to be wary of being helpful) they say and I ridiculously believe so now.
@ruffydfire Lagos was successfully invaded in 1861 by the British and King Docemo (Dosumu) ceded Lagos land to the British colonials but in 1921 Chief Oluwa through his secretary/lawyer defeated the British colonials in a landmark judgment at the London appeal court. Lagos land recovered
@Ericodong3@AgileGreat@ruffydfire 🤣😂🤣🤣. E say as long as they are legal persons. It is funny how people think they can contribute to any/all matters here. I guess that's why it's social media.
@biodun_alao @divonsharon1 @_dinomelaye The disgusting pattern has been for these ones to curse anyone that does not support their view. What has your response to Dino got to do with her curses. They curse every time yet their prayers are not answered.
@ShowmaxNG@itspantheraa I will stop subscribing until you have these kinds of offers. Why shouldn't I be eligible because I have an active subscription.
@ShaddySZN@JohnMarsAuto@instablog9ja It is the ignorance with which people talk confidently, for me. He said, the lady did nothing wrong and she sprayed her own money. The fact that we lack enforcement culture in this country doesn't mean the laws are not there.
