OPERATION HADIN KAI EXECUTES UNPRECEDENTED INTELLIGENCE-LED RESCUE OPERATION, FREES 360 ABDUCTEES FROM JAS STRONGHOLD IN THE MANDARA MOUNTAINS

In one of the most significant hostage rescue operations conducted in the North East Theatre in recent times, troops of the Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), comprising Special Forces and troops of Sector 1, have successfully rescued 360 abductees from a heavily fortified Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad (JAS) enclave deep within the Mandara Mountains area of southern Borno State. The operation, which was the culmination of weeks of painstaking intelligence preparation, covert reconnaissance, and operational planning, resulted in the safe recovery of men, women, and children who had been held in captivity under harsh conditions after being abducted from several communities, particularly within the Ngoshe axis. The successful rescue underscores the growing operational reach, intelligence dominance, and tactical superiority of OPHK in denying terrorists freedom of action and protecting vulnerable populations across the theatre.

The operation was initiated following the receipt of credible and corroborated intelligence from multiple sources indicating the precise location of the hostages and the existence of an elaborate insurgent support network sustaining the enclave. OPHK intelligence elements subsequently launched an extensive target development process involving the integration of Human Intelligence (HUMINT), Signals Intelligence (SIGINT), and persistent Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) operations conducted through unmanned aerial systems and long-range reconnaissance patrols. Through sustained intelligence collection and analysis, commanders developed a comprehensive understanding of the terrain, insurgent disposition, defensive arrangements, movement patterns, and the condition of the abductees. This intelligence-driven approach enabled the force to accurately map the objective area, identify vulnerabilities within the terrorist network, and significantly reduce risks to the hostages during the rescue mission.

A decisive breakthrough was achieved through the successful penetration of the terrorist network by carefully cultivated intelligence assets operating under the supervision of OPHK military intelligence personnel. These assets provided timely and actionable intelligence regarding the exact locations of the abductees, the disposition of insurgent commanders, internal security measures, and planned relocation routes. Simultaneously, carefully coordinated information and psychological operations created uncertainty and mistrust within the insurgent ranks, degrading their cohesion and disrupting command and control arrangements. The resulting intelligence advantage provided OPHK with unprecedented situational awareness and enabled commanders to shape the operational environment well before the commencement of the assault phase.

Amid the flood of felicitations following my convocation as Overall Best Graduating Student of LAUTECH, I find it necessary to address the stir around my NELFUND appreciation post. I accept the praise, life changing offers and the backlash, in good faith. Still, it is only fair to set the record straight.

I hail from a village in Osun State, raised in a modest family of five. I attended public primary and secondary schools, not by choice, but because even the most inexpensive private schools were beyond our means.

Even then, survival itself; food and clothing was a daily struggle. I walked miles to school each morning, while my parents laboured as jacks-of-all-trades to make ends meet.

For nine defining years before I entered university, we lived within sight of basic amenities yet beyond our reach, no electricity, no television; just lanterns and candles. Against these odds, I earned a scholarship and now this distinction.

In my third year, a coursemate’s father, someone I had once tutored academically, gifted me my first smartphone which I am still using till now. On several occasions, lecturers, moved by quiet compassion, provided me with clothing. There are many other instances, too numerous to recount.

So, I say this plainly, not all of us are born with a silver spoon. Some of us climbed the ladder by holding on to every rung of legitimate support we could find.

As an engineering student aspiring to make academic history, should I resort myself to blaming my family’s financial situation for my inability to afford fees and essentials like a reliable smartphone or laptop needed for skills and certifications?

For me personally, NELFUND was not incidental; it was instrumental and to acknowledge what helped one’s journey is neither propaganda nor misplaced allegiance. It is simply an act of appreciation.

I just went through the comments and quotes on Oladepo Caleb Okugbenga's post. He credited NELFUND for supporting him in becoming the Best Graduating Student of LAUTECH, but the dishonesty in some replies is alarming.

You can criticize the Tinubu government for many things, some of it valid, but when it comes to NELFUND, let us be honest. It is a lifesaver.

I am a 500-level medical student at UI. I have been on NELFUND for three consecutive years. They recently paid my school fees and the fees of thousands of UI students this session. That is not a rumor. That is real. NELFUND currently supports students with full academic fee payment sent directly to the school and a monthly upkeep allowance of twenty thousand naira paid directly to the student.

Now let me address the common lies people spread.

Some say it is a loan, so it is not helpful. Yes, it is a loan, but it is interest-free. Tell me one loan app in Nigeria that gives you zero interest.

Others say the repayment is a burden. But repayment only starts after you have graduated, finished NYSC, and found a job. If you are unemployed, you pay nothing. If you lose your job, the payments stop automatically. That is not a burden. That is safety.

Some people claim NELFUND has no impact on students. That is simply false. I am an admin in a group helping students apply successfully. Many higher institutions and scholarship bodies now advise students to take advantage of this loan so they can use their own money for other needs that bring financial stability.

Another lie is that the government made education expensive just to introduce the loan. Federal schools are still highly subsidized. We all know what our mates in private schools pay per session, millions of naira. Our fees, even after adjustments, are a fraction of that.

Most of the people throwing shade at NELFUND are not even in school anymore. They have no idea how the scheme operates today.

Let me be clear. I am not saying we should stop scrutinizing government spending. We absolutely should. But when a good initiative works, we must have the maturity to acknowledge it. NELFUND is keeping real students in school. That is a fact.

Let us not allow dishonesty to rob others of this opportunity.
