In 1821, Britain returned to gold at the old parity of £3 17s 10½d per ounce. Robert Peel's Currency Act made it official, undoing the wartime suspension that had run since 1797. The pound became gold again. Prices fell for the next two decades.

The textbooks never explain what actually happened. Falling price levels did not strangle British industry. They coincided with the most explosive productive burst in human history. Between 1821 and 1850, wholesale prices in Britain dropped by roughly a third. Over that same span, cotton output multiplied, railway mileage went from zero to over 6,000, and pig iron production tripled. Deflation and the Industrial Revolution marched together through the front door, dismantling the deflationary bogeyman that every central banker uses to justify his existence.

Think about what a falling price level under a fixed gold pound actually means. Output grows faster than the money stock. Each ounce of gold, each sovereign in a Manchester workman's pocket, buys more bread, more cloth, more candles this year than last. Real wages rise without a union boss lifting a finger. The saver is rewarded. The capital that funds Stephenson's locomotives and Arkwright's successors comes from real abstention, real deferred consumption, not from a printing press manufacturing paper claims on goods that do not yet exist.

Compare that to the modern priesthood at the Bank of England, which panics if inflation dips below 2 percent and calls a stable price level a "deflationary spiral." They claim falling prices freeze spending, that consumers wait forever for cheaper goods and the economy seizes. The British consumer of 1830 apparently never got the memo. He bought the cheaper cotton shirt and bought two. Your smartphone gets cheaper every year and you keep buying them, so you already know the theory is garbage.

The Peel deflation was benign because gold disciplined the currency while entrepreneurs did the real work of making things abundant. No stimulus. No dual mandate. No wise men adjusting a dial. The gold standard did not permit them the levers, and Britain became the workshop of the world anyway. Every economist who insists you need 2 percent inflation to grow is asking you to ignore the single greatest growth episode on record.

I am having a drink this evening with a friend in a Chiswick pub. Two policemen have just come into the pub and asked me to step outside. I have stepped outside and they have threatened me because I tweeted about a councillor banning seating outside pubs in Chiswick. They admit on video (watch it!) that I did not break the law at all. They came to threaten me. To warn me off tweeting about councillors and the council. This is modern Britain. This is the police state. Please, please, please watch this video. It does involve me using very bad language, but this has got to be seen. Police coming out to threaten someone who hasn’t committed a crime. I’m fuming.

Terwijl grootmedia als de NOS de hitte vrijwel reflexmatig koppelen aan klimaatverandering en broeikasgassen, wijzen kritische wetenschappers op een veel nuchterder en beter onderbouwde verklaring: een hardnekkig weerpatroon in de hogere atmosfeer dat Europa al vaker in zijn greep heeft gehouden.

Wat is een omegablokkade precies?

Een omegablokkade is een specifiek patroon in de straalstroom — de krachtige windstroom op grote hoogte die het weer in onze breedtegraden grotendeels stuurt. De naam komt van de gelijkenis met de Griekse hoofdletter omega (Ω): een grote hogedrukrug in het midden, geflankeerd door twee lagedrukgebieden aan weerszijden. Dit patroon zorgt ervoor dat luchtmassa’s nauwelijks kunnen doorstromen en het weerpatroon wekenlang kan vaststaan.

In het geval van de huidige hittegolf wordt hete Saharalucht door het anticyclonale (met de klok mee draaiende) luchtstroompatroon noordwaarts getransporteerd richting West-Europa. Terwijl die luchtmassa stijgt en daalt onder de hogedrukrug, wordt ze adiabatisch samengedrukt — een puur fysisch proces dat de temperatuur verder doet oplopen. Geen CO2 aan te pas.

De Amerikaanse meteoroloog Chris Martz deelde zijn analyse van het huidige weerpatroon uitgebreid via sociale media. Zijn conclusie is helder: deze omegablokkade heeft niets te maken met klimaatverandering of uitstoot van broeikasgassen. Het is een bekende, goed gedocumenteerde weerdynamiek die altijd al heeft plaatsgevonden en ook in een hypothetisch pre-industrieel klimaat tot recordhitte zou hebben geleid.

Martz wijst bovendien op een opvallende wetenschappelijke paradox. Er bestaan namelijk diverse studies die suggereren dat opwarming van de Arctis juist zou leiden tot minder frequente blokkerende weerpatronen zoals de omegablokkade, omdat het temperatuurverschil tussen de evenaar en de poolgebieden kleiner wordt. Dat staat haaks op de bewering dat klimaatverandering dit soort hittegolven veroorzaakt of versterkt. Martz erkent dat er debat bestaat over dit onderwerp, maar de eenvoudige klimaatboodschap die media uitdragen, is sowieso te kort door de bocht.

Europa vaker getroffen, maar waarom eigenlijk?

Dan is er nog een toename van zonnestraling die het aardoppervlak bereikt, doordat er minder bewolking is van lage en middelmatige wolkenlagen. Die afname van bewolking hangt deels samen met de strenge Europese luchtvervuilingsregels, die hebben geleid tot minder atmosferische aerosolen. Minder deeltjes in de lucht betekent minder wolkenvorming, meer direct zonlicht en dus hogere oppervlaktetemperaturen.

Met andere woorden: de eigen Europese milieuregulering draagt bij aan de toegenomen hitte. Dat is een ongemakkelijke conclusie die je in de reguliere media zelden zult tegenkomen.

Media kiezen sensatie boven wetenschappelijke nuance

Denktank Clintel, vertegenwoordigd door wetenschapsjournalist Marcel Crok, onderschrijft de analyse van Martz. De conclusie is simpel: wie de oorzaak van de Europese hitte wil begrijpen, kan beter een meteoroloog raadplegen dan een krantenredactie die op zoek is naar een clickbait-verhaal.

Het is inmiddels een vast patroon: zodra het ergens warm is, wordt de link met klimaatverandering gelegd, vrijwel zonder nuance, zelden met meteorologische onderbouwing en al helemaal niet met verwijzing naar mogelijke alternatieve verklaringen. Dat is geen journalistiek — dat is activisme vermomd als wetenschap.

I am furious about this to a degree that it's hard to express.

This is important.

Shabana Mahmood is laying out plans for more asylum seekers to come to the UK using a 'Community Sponsorship Scheme' but very few people know what this entails.

I am so angry not just for the reasons that are clearly obvious to everyone but also due to the fact that this was all laid out in the Fabian Society's publication 'Lawful & Fair' in June 2023. Keep in mind that almost our entire cabinet are Fabians including Shabana.

It says: '“In addition, the UK should create a single ‘community welcome’ route to enable communities to sponsor refugees. The UK Refugee Service would be responsible for administering a single, uncapped, additional, sponsorship route. This community welcome route would allow citizen groups (including faith, charity and community groups as well as universities and employers) to sponsor refugees, building on existing schemes including the community sponsorship scheme and the Homes for Ukraine scheme, but not restricted to any particular nationality. Sponsorship also has the benefit of injecting community voice into the system and improves integration outcomes.”

This means that, for example, Mosques could make use of that uncapped sponsorship route to bring in as many 'asylum seekers' as they choose to sponsor. No doubt with shady foreign funding. Then the government would call that 'integration' because they had integrated into the Muslim 'community'.

And it says:

“A community-based welcome strategy would fit and move in lockstep with a new national refugee policy (for example, requiring a minimum level of refugee resettlement in all local authorities) and with a single community welcome sponsorship scheme for all nationalities, as outlined above, but encompassing all new arrivals.”

Got that? 'A minimum level of refugee resettlement in all local authorities'.

The document also makes the case for:
- The right to work for all asylum seekers after 6 months
- Making all kinds of migrants including asylum seekers British Citizens as soon as possible
- Building an industry out of asylum seeking within a 'UK Refugee Service' with 1,000 staff
- An online portal for applications from Afghanistan, Libya, Syria, Yemen, etc
- Speeding up approvals and blanket approving claims from certain countries

What this means, as is so clearly obvious to us all is that this government, from before its first day in office has been following a playbook that has been decades in the making.

They are not listening. They are not reacting to events or changing course based on evidence. They are locked in and utterly convinced of their righteousness. They simply do not care what you think or what evidence exists.

This is echo chamber thinking at its worst. Groups convincing themselves that they are correct and then gradually, collectively working their way into positions of leadership in order implement their master plan.

The Fabian Society is not just a think tank. It's a network. A belief system. A cult.

This will be looked back on and studied in the future as a political disaster of civilisational proportions. That's if it's us that get to write the history books.
