Cost is a relative concept since those countries offering it have high tax rates. Also for people who “can’t pay for it” that is why federal and state healthcare programs are a thing. Where you have 0 copays or very small copays.

The stance that there is absolutely nothing the poorer people in America can do is disingenuous. And anyone saying so must not have had the reason to go looking for such things.

And again personal responsibility comes in when they sign a piece of paper and then play victim when they can’t believe something isn’t covered. Should there be changes? Yes. Do you know where? I do.

There should be legislation which puts a cap on the amount of profit a hospital can get for things like expendable or single use items. There shouldn’t be a reason someone is getting charge $400 for a bag of saline when it costs a few nickels if that.

The value should be established for a doctors and nurses skill and ability. The value of the hospitals should be coming from the staff they have not the bandages they use.

They have plenty of oversight committees and if legislation was passed where there is a minimum level of salary and based off of experience and specialty you get percentage increases it would stem the runaway costs of healthcare even including advances made.

Simply “making it free” to the American people, would

1) statistically end up with more people dying due to long wait times

2) would the American people really be better off if now they have to endure a 15% to 20% new tax on their paycheck? The entire argument is how they can’t afford it. So is it healthcare we want them to be able to afford or is it other things like housing, food, utilities.

3) effectively the prescribed solution involves taking 15% - 20% of their paychecks each year so that way they can make a doctors appointment in nine to ten months, or just have that money disappear without ever going to the doctor as they don’t need to.

4) my plan, pass legislation that stops run away price increases brought about by hospitals which in turn raises insurance rates to compensate. The problem here is the privately owned hospitals and even the not for profits which are able to set prices how they see fit based off a ambiguous document deep in the bowels of the hospital which no one else can see. Also ambulances and other EMS services are the only thing that is federally covered. Entirely. That is a much more reasonable approach than telling the American citizens they now need to give up 15% more of their paychecks because people were angry at companies who don’t even set the prices of medical treatment.

Just got out of an early screening of "Good luck, have fun, don't die." Gore Verbinski nailed the profoundly uncomfortable nature of what social media and AI can do to us if we let it get out of control.

This movie is a 10/10 for me. Sam Rockwell did an incredible job at bringing this character to life. I cannot recommend this film enough.
