Creeping back to my second twitter account for "going places & doing things while getting bit by midges" purposes. Exciting content (bad phone pictures & updates on the perpetual search for a fried egg roll / coffee / tray bakes) likely to follow.
Once again last night we’ve fallen victim to to horrible vandalism, fortunately no one was hurt, however as a small charity with the community at the heart of what we do this is devastating.

We (I) have decided it's time to rebrand cycling. From now on, please refer to it exclusively as 'wild driving'. We'll have a thousand positive pieces in the Sunday papers about it and everyone will get on board. You can thank us later #5GoMadOnWhisky
If you haven't signed our petition yet you still have time. Help us ensure that active travel routes during COP are kept safe, direct, and motor traffic free.

Statement in solidarity with Afghan women.
'As the Taliban retake power, we urge the UK government to do all it can to ensure that women and girls are protected, above all by offering safe passage and asylum to women who need to leave Afghanistan for safety.' 1/4
@johnrobson87@Cyclesouthedin 🤔Reason for removing #MorningsideRoad uphill cycle lane: "inadequate road width"
[No mention of business]
The🚲lane is a real safety measure
Without it, people will cycle slowly uphill in🚙lane past the inevitable parked🚙
(+ incidentally delay buses!!)
Email your cllrs NOW!
So irritating that some people are justifying the removal of protected cycle lanes on public transport grounds. Public transport needs to be protected from vehicular traffic. The sustainable transport hierarchy is clear - an inconvenient truth that 🚲 is above 🚙🚙🚙🚙🚛🚛
Talking to my upstairs neighbour earlier today, he said during the first lockdown he was able to take his oldest kid cycling on the road because it was so quiet. But he'd never do that now as he "can't protect her". But @Edinburgh_CC councillors will prioritise parking anyway?
@Edinburgh_CC as far as I can tell there's no actual desire to make any real change. What climate emergency? Just give the city over to cars - every street, every pavement, because drivers are the only people whose votes (or safety) matter anyway. I could actually cry.
FFS Edinburgh Council, what are you playing at? The rest of Scotland was hoping there was at least one part of the country that could set an example of rapidly rolling out some sort of a safe cycle network
Moreover, the installation of new mandatory cycle lanes is disappointing. Mandatory cycle lanes encourage close passes and other dangerous overtakes.
Please RT and email your councillors before Thursday with your thoughts on the proposed changes! 9/10
A thread on next Thursday's, CEC’s Transport and Environment Committee meeting where the committee will discuss and vote on proposed changes to “Active Travel Measures – Traveling Safely (Formerly Spaces for People)”. Recommended changes include 1/10
Once again, the council seems prioritise space allocation to cars instead of pedestrians and cyclists and therefore contradict the transport hierarchy it advocates for. 6/10
@EdinCyclist Mandatory cycle lanes are worse than nothing. I've nearly been pushed off the road in them many times. Basically, this says "not a risk confortable young man? Then don't bother cycling in Edinburgh." Actual contempt forthe safety of anyone not in a car.
@EdinCyclist Basically this will remove some of the sections I use regularly and also return Raeburn Place to a car park with pedestroans squeezed up to the sides. Pretty awful.
Stockbridge resident here: hello, Edinburgh councillors, these proposals are so incredibly depressing and retrograde. Just admit you don't actually want a 21st C active travel city because your can't imagine a future where everyone who matters to you isn't driving most journeys.
