The difference is that in the second case, you have to get the server's attention up to 8 times instead of 4.

@insanemansays @jakebackpack Typically in the UK we'll be out with other people, and the etiquette is that everyone buys a round in turn. Each person pays once. If I'm paying for everything at my table then a tab makes sense. We don't have a culture of sitting at bars alone and settling up at the end.
