Driving around Kampala and its suburbs is incredibly frustrating.
High-rise buildings are going up all over Kyanja, Komamboga, and the surrounding areas, yet the roads remain narrow and are already overwhelmed by heavy traffic.
It makes you wonder who approves these constructions without planning for the next 15 years?? @KCCAUG
2nd frame ,roads in Kololo,Naguru were planned so well very many years ago.
What is Directorate of physical planning doing?
Many of these areas were zoned for low density residential 20 years ago.
Why hasn't this changed?
@mkainerugaba talked about the fast growing Addis Ababa City ,I lived there during the radical multiple construction of roads , mercy was not heard , people who lived in slums were relocated to condominium buildings, sell the land if you can't afford a 2 story building and move certain meters away from the road .
Roads were constructed, slums cleared out ,developers came in after the easy access of Bypasses cutting through multiple areas in the city .
I understand they have a different land law ,perhaps its time we revise one for Kampala as well?
We out to do something or else ,the fast growing Kampala and the neighbouring towns is going to be like one huge slums like the ones we studied about in Mexico.
A hidden gem turning into a national park. Think Kidepo vibes - wild landscapes, wildlife & culture, but closer and easier to reach.
Plus it’s the ONLY other place in Uganda to see ostriches! 🦅
#VisitUganda
Pian Upe is one of Uganda’s hidden gems, and it is in the process of becoming a national park. It offers a wild and beautiful experience, almost like Kidepo Valley, with similar landscapes, wildlife, and strong cultural connections with the communities around it.
It is also the only protected area where you can find ostriches outside of Kidepo, making it even more special and worth exploring. The good thing is, it is closer and easier to access, with scenic roads that make the journey just as enjoyable as the destination.
If you’re looking for something different this season, Pian Upe is worth the visit. Come and discover its beauty and be part of its conservation journey.

Wildlife Myth 1
I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve heard that.
Elephants are aggressive.
After spending time around elephants, I’ve come to see something different.
Most elephants aren’t looking for conflict. In fact, if you give them the space they need, they’ll often ignore you completely and carry on grazing, walking with the herd, or looking after their calves.
The moments people call “aggression” usually happen for a reason. A mother protecting her young. A bull feeling threatened. An elephant warning that you’ve crossed its comfort zone.
That doesn’t make elephants dangerous by nature. It reminds us that we’re visitors in their home.
The more time I spend in the wild, the more I realize that many of the stories we grow up hearing about wildlife aren’t entirely true.
Sometimes, what looks like aggression is simply an animal asking for space.
What’s that one wildlife myth you’ve always believed?
Fun fact: Uganda is home to the world's highest concentration of habituated wild chimpanzees, making it the best place on Earth for chimpanzee trekking experiences and primate research.
On this #WorldChimpanzeeDay, we celebrate one of Uganda's greatest natural treasures and humanity's closest living relatives.
From the lush forests of Kibale National Park (home to more than 1,500) to Budongo Forest, Kalinzu Forest, Kyambura Gorge, Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary (@ngambaisland), and the Uganda Wildlife Conservation Education Centre (@UWEC_EntebbeZoo), Uganda offers exceptional opportunities to experience these remarkable primates while learning why their conservation matters.
As we continue showcasing the Pearl of Africa to the world, let us also reaffirm our commitment to protecting the forests and ecosystems that make these extraordinary encounters possible. We commend the Uganda Wildlife Authority (@ugwildlife) and all conservation partners whose dedication to protecting our wildlife and habitats ensures that future generations can continue to experience the wonder of Uganda's chimpanzees.
COFFEE SCIENCE:
Cabbages can be intercropped in young coffee gardens. Plant cabbages in open sunlit spaces between coffee trees. Keep the beds weed-free as a pest control measure. Cabbages provide early income, help cover the topsoil, and maximize land use.
