@StevenFalk1
I saw my first #beefly today, hurrah! But I can't identify it. I thought it my might be Heath Bee Fly but it was in my garden in Cornwall. Can you help me? Sorry for the terrible phone pics...
@CBromley8@Tory4A@LukePollard Similar to the street trees in Sheffield, some genuinely had to be removed, but other iconic and veteran trees could have been retained with more skilled maintenance and investment, which would have benefited residents. The chainsaw is wielded too easily.
@CBromley8@Tory4A@LukePollard It's more complicated than being represented. There's an awful lot of work gone into both sides, it's not an easy answer - have a look at https://t.co/djZhlzXWlF
@AmyJaneBeer @Sarah111well @jm0ses@EveryonesStars@nickhayesillus1@guyshrubsole @RobGMacfarlane @Right_2Roam The hard-to-reach don't need access to priority habitats & folksy teachings. They need safe outdoor spaces. Admittedly I am a grumpy oldish hypocrite whose increasing eco-anxiety is really only alleviated by time out in nature, so I do recognise your point.
@AmyJaneBeer @Sarah111well @jm0ses@EveryonesStars@nickhayesillus1@guyshrubsole @RobGMacfarlane @Right_2Roam For example, nature-deprived young people in Plymouth: we should focus on engaging them more with nature on their doorstep, like Saltram, Mt Edgcumbe, Central Park, the lido, rather than fretting about the handful who will keep wild camping anyway. We've got our priorities wrong.
@AmyJaneBeer @Sarah111well @jm0ses@EveryonesStars@nickhayesillus1@guyshrubsole @RobGMacfarlane @Right_2Roam I've seen first-hand the damage caused by fires, tree felling, dead wood clearing, erosion, noise, litter, pollution, harassment leading to abandonment of eggs & pups, shooting and more. I'm not a huge fan of people any more.
@AmyJaneBeer @Sarah111well @jm0ses@EveryonesStars@nickhayesillus1@guyshrubsole @RobGMacfarlane @Right_2Roam We need to bring nature into our towns and cities, I agree to connect with people so they value & cherish it, but also to make our urban areas more resilient to future challenges and better for wildlife. THAT is where our efforts should be going.
@AmyJaneBeer @Sarah111well @jm0ses@EveryonesStars@nickhayesillus1@guyshrubsole @RobGMacfarlane @Right_2Roam After twenty-plus years working in nature conservation in various roles, I'm definitely in the camp of bring nature to people, and leave the wilds to the wildlife, in the main. Managed & controlled access is my preferred way forward! Bad of me I know.
@AmyJaneBeer @Sarah111well @jm0ses@EveryonesStars@nickhayesillus1@guyshrubsole @RobGMacfarlane @Right_2Roam But human disturbance is definitely one of the factors particularly in edge habitats like moorlands, rivers, coastlines, open woodland, scattered tree & scrub - and brings huge fire risk too. I don't believe we deserve a right to roam.
@georgiewildbray@tommlancaster This is the classic grey area of MT when it's not clear if the bullet points mean *and* or *or*.
So frustrating when this leads to confusion and too high thresholds for delivery (WHY does a box need to meet all three criteria?!) but unlikely to be a workaround on the IT system.
Fowey Harbour, Cornwall.' (1887) Frank Brangwyn was among the new generation of artists who painted radically different coastal pictures in Britain in the 1880s, their vision sharpened and modernised by the new methods which came with hand-held photography.
