Yes!!! I used to be an Uber driver.
At that time, life was seriously tossing me up and down. I didn’t even know what else to do again. After thinking about it for a while, I called a few friends and told them I wanted to start e-hailing business, and that the problem was that I didn’t have enough money to buy a car.
Those guys surprised me. They contributed some money for me, and I withdrew the last kobo in my account and bought a Nigerian used 2004 Corolla.
I did the work diligently and professionally, but the car was always embarrassing me. Sometimes I'd just be praying it behaves itself in front of passengers.
So one day, I picked up a man from the airport. I was neatly dressed as usual and everything was going smoothly. Less than 10 minutes into the ride, the gear suddenly refused to select. My heart just sank. I had to pull over immediately and politely explained the situation to the man. I told him to kindly book another ride and that he shouldn’t bother paying me for the ongoing trip.
The man then asked me “will Uber charge you for this ride?” I said yes.
He asked for my account number and sent me more than five times his fare. I was shocked 😲😳.
He collected my number, ordered another ride and left. I thought that was the end of it, but no it wasn't.
The next day by exactly 5:30pm, he called me and gave me a location, asking me to come immediately. When I got there, he simply introduced me to his friend Chief Emeka Nnabuife of blessed memory and told him “fix this young man up.”
I didn’t even spend up to 15 minutes there. But my life changed that night. Till today, I've not stopped praying for the soul of Chief Emeka Nnabuife to continue to rest in peace.
Have you been helped by a total stranger before? I'd be glad to hear your story too.
Ngl I like weird people. The black sheep, the odd ducks, the eccentrics, the artists, the loners. People who actually think for themselves, the kind whose morals are not swayed by groupthink. These people have the most beautiful soułs.
Watching mutuals enter their motherhood era is so heartwarming, I’ve seen uni graduations, marriages, relocations and now seeing motherhood! Life truly is in stages and each one is beautiful ♥️.
I don't follow the "respect is earned" philosophy. I respect everyone automatically and then each person has the opportunity to lose my respect based on their behavior.
There’s this faulty narrative that the best marketers are quietly behind the scenes - too busy doing “real” work to build their name.
Bozoma Saint John was Chief Brand Officer at Uber, CMO at Netflix, and before that she led music and entertainment marketing at Apple.
You don’t have to choose between building a brand for your company and building one for yourself.
Nowadays people get poached without a single formal interview. Just because the right person saw their work online, followed their thinking, and already decided they wanted them before a job even opened up.
Your name is an asset. Treat it like one.
My older sister was 17 when our mom left.
She dropped out for a year so I wouldn’t have to switch schools. She packed my lunch every day. She lied and told me she wasn’t hungry so I would eat more.
I didn’t understand then.
I do now.
She’s 29. I’m 24.
Last week I paid off the last bit of her student loan without telling her. Just sent the receipt.
She called me crying.
I said, “You carried me when you were still a child. Let me carry you now.”
She still checks if I’ve eaten. I still make sure her bills are covered before mine.
Two kids who had no manual.
Now we’re building a life that doesn’t feel like survival anymore.
My aunty married at 33 and for 8 solid years, no child came. Yet her husband never once pointed fingers, never made her feel less, never dimmed her light. He treated her like his best friend and his queen every single day.
Five years in, they adopted a beautiful son and chose joy over bitterness. While people whispered "barren" behind her back, this man stood tall as her shield and her loudest cheerleader.
Then last December, by God's own timetable, a bouncing baby boy arrived.
Today they presented him in church and my aunty crawled on her knees from the back all the way to the altar… tears of pure, overflowing joy.
That kind of love? That kind of patience? That kind of unshakable loyalty? Rare. Very rare.
I’ve already attacked two full plates of jollof and I’m still not done celebrating! 🥳
Above all, love God.
If God saves you money, He is also giving you money.
For example, I've never paid any hospital bill for 8 years now. God has saved me millions in health expenses.
Sometimes, God doesn't give us money directly, He saves us money.
I was 19, when a lady told me that her father slept with her. He slept with all his daughters. And her mum knew about it. Yes, you read that right.
Almost every woman I have encountered in my 41 years on earth has been sexually assaulted. If you don't believe me, ask the women in your life or around you. Simple.
How can an entire gender be sexually exploited by men accross decades or centuries? When will this rubbish stop? Yet, you say women are angry or bitter.
If you are tired of women being bitter, angry or rude, then LEAVE WOMEN ALONE!
How hard is it to LEAVE WOMEN ALONE!
