Turkey opposed US allied Kurdish led Syrian Democratic Forces, going even so far as to side with Syrian non-state forces to seize areas from the SDF along or near the Turkish border.

Turkey also directly undercut U.S. and NATO defense policy by buying Russia’s S-400 air defense system.

Turkey has also used its NATO position as leverage against our other allies, acting more as an adversary than anything resembling an ally.
