@LE_Graeme @DotLepkowska @Angie_RejoinEU One woman out shopping was told off for not speaking English to her child. She replied they were in Wales, and she was speaking in Welsh.
@Sue_Cowley Richard Fynman (uni lecturer in physics): How would you explain a subject to a complete novice. Strip out all the jargon. Explain in terms they already understand.
@Sue_Cowley Learned as in learning facts: when did a certain event happen; which may simply be a test of memory, or learned as in skills that we use through life: reading, writing, sport, music, language etc. Either way, most learning tends to fade unless used/refreshed regularly.
@SelineSigil9 Apologies for lowering the tone a little - an archaeological survey some time ago found that he originally had a navel, and part of what we now see used to be that.
@benonwine@TaylorMadeChess@rickygervais Some birds use this as way to avoid being eaten by predators (foxes etc). They lie still while predator/threat is near and escape as soon as it moves away, as it did here. Lack of movement makes it harder to spot, and something already dead is unlikely to make a good meal.
@CCaseyWriter@FolkloreThurs People interpret that phrase in different ways: for some, it means wait until the month of May starts; for some it means wait until the month has ended; for others, it means wait until the May flower is in blossom.
@ndshewonderswhy If it's the same ad: man flying red plane; the words are 'Gwlad gwlad'. The word 'gwlad' means country or land, and the word is repeated like that in the national anthem.
@SueGogan@ruthpanama @BibiBaskin @Irish_Learner Muisiriún, also listed in An Foclóir beag (2009), Ó Dónaill (2005) and English-Irish dictionary (2004).
@au_ireland@NMIreland Bigger disks may have been for larger (heavier) objects: a small disk may have been torn out to easily by the weight of what it was attached to. Gold is durable and would handle regular use. Grooves in the arch would make them easier for cold, wet fingers to hold.
@au_ireland@NMIreland The arch is crafted and intended to be seen. The disks, as they are lack protection and would be too easily damaged: They may simply have been there to spread the weight of the object it was part of and may normally have been hidden underneath some cover (leather etc).
@m2in84@au_ireland@irarchaeology@NMIreland The shape may suit a horses maine: platted in for some special occasion. Gold is soft but those edges look sharp for someone's pony tail.
@bellesy Came across suggestion to use ten percent of price as a rough idea for any tip. Easy to work out. Whether to do it: your choice, depending on results.
