I am on Book 9 of 19 in the New Jedi Order series (read some of it in... high school maybe? College? Don't remember)
Book 1 (RA Salvatore) was great. 2 and 3 (Stackpole) was great. The next couple were solid.
Balance Point (Book 6) was kind of slow. However, I started picking up on pro-life themes and Christian theology throughout. So I looked the author up and yup she's a PCA Christian. Cool.
Book 7 CONQUEST is one of the best Star Wars EU novels I have ever read.
Book 8 was almost as good.
My overall thoughts now that I'm almost halfway through - still love the Yuuhzan Vong. And man what a waste that Disney didn't do anything with these characters. It's weird to see Luke happily married, Han raising his kids, etc., when Disney trashed all that stuff. It's a very pro-family, pro-marriage universe.
The hurdle I see the series having to overcome is Star Wars is all about heroes prevailing and saving the day against desperate odds. You can get away with a tragic ending in the 2nd movie of a film trilogy, because you know the heroes are gonna rally back in the third. But the first half of this series (and I assume most of the way through) is the New Republic losing battle after battle. So you're just waiting for that tipping point when the tide turns.
Thus, the very best books in the series have the heroes strike some kind of victory at the end, but the bad guys are gonna come back stronger in the next one. The weakest ones it's just the New Republic and Jedi evacuating planet after planet.
Anyway very excited to finish this series. And very sad Disney scrapped the EU.

Happy Independence Day to the greatest nation man has ever known!
@MikeNellis The same people who will tell you its perfectly ok to kill kids in the womb, want you to believe that the only way to feed kids is to give the government more control over their breakfast.
So, I’m hearing that “Mandalorian & Grogu” is bad, but is it “randomly fall into a desert sinkhole and discover a dagger that happens to locate another plot device if you’re standing in the perfect spot/distance away from wreckage on another planet” bad?
BREAKING
The Indiana Supreme Court has UPHELD the state ban on abortion.
The court sided against Planned Parenthood and ruled the ban is constitutional.
This is a huge win and many lives will be saved!
We must continue to strengthen these pro-life laws.
We must BAN the abortion pill.
Out of the Silent Planet is great, and Perelandra is genuinely one of the most beautiful books I've read in many years. It is profound and simple; beautiful and compelling in all the right ways.

Watching the Opening Ceremony for the Winter Olympics in Cortina and... they couldn't find an Italian singer? In Italy?
They chose... Mariah Carey?
Oh well, good to receive more confirmation the USA is indeed the main character country of the world I guess.
