@LeahLibresco the conjunction of utilitarianism and certain empirical claims. Object to one or the other, but there is no special extremity to Singer's views in particular.
@LeahLibresco He is not 'establishing a class of humans that is licit to kill' any more than every other utilitarian. On the total view any act is conceivably obligatory if it maximizes well-being in expectation. You can reject this obviously, but Singer's views are just what follow from /
@morallawwithin is this asking like, knowing nothing besides their ages, at what point does it become reasonable to have >50% credence in their being something wrong ? i imagine its not asking at what point does their become an inherent problem such that the relationship should be opposed or smt
@__MarieTherese_@proper485@adamh0we@ratlimit her claim is an empirical one, so this question has no bearing on it. you should spend less time posting smug and self-satisfied messages on twitter if you are so stupid as to be unable to grasp this.
@BigMeanInternet@M_Cottone it is very difficult for me to understand your epistemically corrosive attitude, except by assumption that you don’t really care what’s true, or more charitably that you have already decided you’ve gotten the important facts right, and that the rest are immaterial
@BigMeanInternet@M_Cottone then you are projecting. the divisions between CG and industry are not beside the point, and inscrutable only to those whom like you refuse to engage them on grounds readily disprovable just by reading the work itself.
@BigMeanInternet@M_Cottone is this always how you think and reason about the world ? do you care even a little about forming true rather than false beliefs about it ?
@BigMeanInternet@M_Cottone you are shockingly smug for someone who just described CG as an ‘industry proponent’, just astoundingly confused and embarrassing
@morallawwithin it’s also just a complete non sequitr lol. even if every last vegan really was a vile racist, it would have no bearing on whether you yourself could permissibly eat factory farmed animals. so stupid.
