MYTH: School choice only benefits students who leave public schools.
FACT: School choice can affect entire education systems — not just the students who transfer.
Research over the last two decades has found that when families gain more educational options, nearby district schools often respond by improving academics, expanding programs, strengthening communication with parents, or specializing in areas that better serve their communities.
Multiple studies have found that when families gain more educational options, nearby district schools often respond by improving academics, expanding programs, or strengthening engagement with parents. Researchers including @FlowTap1, David Figlio of @CatoInstitute, and @ProfMartyWest have documented evidence that competitive pressure can lead to gains even for students who remain in district schools.
That doesn’t mean every program works perfectly or every result is identical across states. Education is more complicated than that.
But the idea that school choice only affects the students who leave misses a much bigger reality: sometimes, shifting enrollment patterns (read:shifting revenue) is the spark needed for institutional adaptation. New models and programs emerge. Existing schools respond to family needs differently.
Choice changes systems — not just individual student experiences.

@EWErickson God bless, Erick! Don't always agree with you, but I appreciate your insight, character, and Christian conviction.
Every day of the week, I'd rather be aligned with Mike Pence and humble prayer warriors than with online Theobro bullies....
More proof that the Sunshine State has become an education destination for families -- the case for building robust #SchoolChoice in your state grows that much stronger!
Here’s the latest example of a family moving to Florida for better schools & #schoolchoice: The Mickelsons from Minnesota.
Toby & Nicole Mickelson had a number of reasons for wanting to leave the Gopher State, but they weren’t sure where to go.
Then a friend in FL posted on facebook about the state’s choice scholarships, which the Legislature & @GovRonDeSantis made available to every single student, beginning in 2023.
Nicole said, “Can you believe this even exists?”
Toby said, “Are you kidding me?”
At that point, Nicole told me, Florida “was a shoo in.”
Now the Mickelsons are proud Floridians, with four children at the Donahue Academy, a classical Catholic school like the one they attended back in Minnesota.

Union activists have launched a full scale attack on students and families in Arizona.
This act will do nothing to improve outcomes for students, families, or the state of Arizona. Rather, it amounts to an ideologically driven assault on the educational opportunity of our students.
Arizonans deserve better. https://t.co/eMZO5W3Eru
So now the video was posted by a staffer erroneously and left up for hours after complaints, which means the President is giving access to others to post stolen election conspiracies that end with abject racist memes. That's not exactly reassuring, let alone competent.

@conservmillen Should this cut both ways with Christian leaders who never call out Trump's serious faults? How much public outrage should be shown about his administration backtracking on abortion, for example?
Problem: It's hard to get a platform by criticizing both sides. What does THAT say?
