Campuses in California have been putting “mask bans” for students into their policies and procedures. Mask bans target student protestors and unfairly harm students with disabilities who use masks for their health and safety.

In response to these policies, DRC and Disability Rights Education & Defense Fund (@DREDF) collaborated to create Know Your Rights: Mask Bans on California College Campuses. This guide will tell you about your rights when it comes to wearing a mask on campus and to give you information on what to do if those rights are violated.

There is no way to implement a mask ban equitably. Regardless of intent, banning masks in some capacity will harm disabled people.

Among other things, this new policy across UC schools bans masks for the purpose of concealing identity. How would you know if someone is wearing a mask to conceal their identity or to protect from Covid? You don’t.

Gov Newsom prioritizes Prop 1 funds while his #CABudget cuts funds from:
-children & youth behavioral health
-behavioral health bridge housing
-older adults behavioral health
-CalWORKS mental health & substance abuse services
So does he care about mental health?

While Newsom touts CARE Court and #Prop1 as solutions to homelessness, he is cutting homelessness prevention programs like this one. It’s transparent that his intentions are not to help people get housing and stay housed.
