“We cannot build peace on the graves of impunity. If Sri Lanka is to achieve meaningful reconciliation; accountability & justice shouldn’t be treated as an option, but a non-negotiable.”
My remarks on the need for accountability UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.
You can be critical of the US and its allies without pretending that Russia and China are the good guys. You can also recognise, correctly, that the US-Israel war on Iran is illegal and immoral (and stupid) and not pretend that the Islamic regime are saints. It's not that hard.
I can go on and on about this, but whats the point.
P.s. the example in the quoted tweet has nothing to do with militarization.. having a highly militarized society has not helped us one bit in dealing with this situation (3/3)
Militarization is bad because it harms private business, we subsidie military businesses & drive out pvt business opertunities. It undermines civilian administration.. we've lived under militarization for so long we take it for granted as normal (2/3)
Militarization is bad not because the West says so. It's bad because it harms all parts of our civil society. Our police functioned as a para military for so long its ability to investigate crimes & police civil society is seriously gone (1/3)
Under Standing Order 27(2), I questioned the Minister of Public Security on the 2014 killings of Gopi, Thevigan and Appan in Nedunkeni, Vavuniya. While we learn the Channel 4 documentary Dispatches is being examined, why are the other Channel 4 documentaries—Sri Lanka’s Killing Fields and No Fire Zone—not being investigated? I also sought updates on the status of investigations and alleged links between military intelligence and armed groups such as the Islamic Center and Tripoli Platoon.
The only exception is that this very country you are proud of chooses to massacre its own citizens & treat them as second class so that they can appease the willfully ignorant majority.
Proud of my country & leadership for choosing to save people instead of killing them & support people instead of displacing them.
That’s the kind of country we should be.
I’m damn proud of it.
How about you?
Internal conflict isn't "true self vs. false self." It's "short-term desire vs. long-term desire".
You're not one person being influenced. You're a coalition government having a crisis.
Your awareness just creates space for negotiation.
@sanjiva@sanjiva Try living in N&E as an ordinary civilian before glorifying militarisation from your majority comfort zone.
It’s easy to romanticise boots & barbed wire when they’re not outside your home, surveillance isn’t your daily reality, and your identity isn’t deemed a threat.

I think Eelam Tamils are doing alright, thanks.
Torturers getting promoted despite the Supreme Court ordering disciplinary action tells us everything.
When even the highest court can be ignored, it’s not just impunity, it’s the slow collapse of the rule of law.
Today we called on Sri Lanka to meet its commitments to accelerate progress on key human rights cases, establish an independent prosecutor’s office, and release more military-held land. Counter terrorism legislation must abide by Sri Lanka’s human rights obligations.
When its a personal issue even TVK war rooms must not speak.
See the respect these guys to give for someone who was married to Vijay for 26 years, mother of his 2 children.
Imagine the agony & mental torture #Sangeetha abd her children went through for the last 5years and she has chosen the right time to take a revenge.
Charlie Kirk, in June of 2025, explaining why a massive US war against Iran, and an attempt to facilitate regime change, as pushed by people like Lindsey Graham, is "pathologically insane":
Twenty years ago we invaded Iraq. The war killed many innocent Iraqis and Americans. It destroyed the oldest Christian populations in the world. It cost over $1 trillion, and turned Iraq into a satellite of Iran. It was an unforced disaster, and I pray that we learn its lessons.
