Strangely, it's moments like this that I feel most lucky to be queer. I think about our elders. How hopeless they must have felt. How easy it would have been to give up. But they fought for the life I get to live today. What an insult it would be, to them, to succumb to despair
Hillary Clinton herself has said that Kamala Harris winning would be the thing that finally helps her heal from losing in 2016, but painting her as some uniquely monomaniacal villain requires less creativity I guess.
Begging y’all to be normal about this lady. Please.
To the man with longest legacy of giving we have ever known, Happy 100th Birthday Mr. President Carter. Your work has impacted the world and your heart continues to change lives, ours included. Grateful to be on your Carter Work Project Habitat for Humanity build this week with many others … Thank you for inspiring all of us to give more and love more! It’s an honor to be your friend. love, Garth and Trisha
I’m so happy I’m a “give people healthcare and a strong union” type of liberal and not a “Taylor Swift hugged a person I disagree with and that makes me mad” type of liberal
Tim Walz served honorably and well.
Again, this is strategic: team Trump needs us tied up in debates over pre-retirement conditional rank promotions because they are desperate NOT to discuss their (unpopular) policies, like tax cuts for the rich and banning access to abortion.
Come to think of it, denigrating the worth of a soldier’s service based on whether he deployed to a war zone is… kind of like denigrating the worth of a woman’s citizenship based on whether she happens to have children.
"This sacred task of perfecting our union is not about me. It is about you."
I'm immeasurably proud of my friend and my president, @JoeBiden.
Thank you for everything, Joe. Now let's go save democracy.
. @JoeBiden just gave one of the most important speeches ever delivered by an American president.
Like our first president, George Washington he freely gives up power for an idea bigger than any one person.
President Biden is patriotism personified and I thank God for him.
Y’all Dems who cried “step down” better keep THAT👏🏾SAME👏🏾ENERGY👏🏾 you used to run our President Biden out this race to elect @KamalaHarris#Harris2024
- sincerely the backbone of the party
Look, everyone on our side of the aisle wants the same thing: for Trump to lose.
I don't think it makes any sense to question the motives of those calling for him to step down. Their motive is they want democracy to survive.
It is, however, truly odd that this disconnect exists between the elite (media, podcasters, DC insiders) and voters.
The elite thought the debate was the end of the Biden campaign.
Voters don't seem to care much. (Trump got a typical post-debate bounce which seems to be evaporating by the day, as most post-debate bounces do).
It suggests voters think Biden's age and gaffe-prone communication style is baked in.
But there's something else going on and it seems to me to reek of jealousy and pride. These (mostly white, mostly male, mostly rich) doubters seem offended that they could be represented by someone who does not possess their gift for cutting irony and elite sensibilities. That's the currency of the beltway class.
So it's as if they're saying, "This kind and wise, gaffe-prone man could not possibly represent ME."
Or, more specifically, they're saying, "If this man wins, it proves this country doesn't really value ME that much so it can't be true."
It's touching a nerve in them. And the nerve it touches is that maybe all their wit and irony and silver-tongued analysis crumbles in the face of true leadership which is about vision, empathy, and steadfast commitment to some core principles like honesty, justice and the support for working people. And Biden has those things in spades.
