@lrozen@KofmanMichael It's just somewhat complicated because Starshield can refer to many things: a policy switch on existing infrastructure, totally different satellites from Starlink launched specifically for the military, separate terminals, blah blah.
It all relies on the Starlink 'backbone.'
@akarlin Behold the 'uncontacted' tribe: real life example of communities completely forsaking adjacent unlimited wealth and technology in a way that isn't a choice for the individuals within the tribe. Then there's quite a spectrum of modernity penetration. Nontrivial risk!
@theo Same. Even with Daybreak enabled. They aren't rare on Claude Code either... I think there's a bit of a hot potato dynamic, no one wants to be the blamed party when the next story goes viral because politicians are in a mood to performatively smack someone around.
@xlr8harder@acadoomia667 Daybreak is more permissive than codex default. Then there's a huge gap. Then there's chatgpt and claude code, both of which are far less trigger happy to stop a session than Daybreak Blue on codex.
Kind of strange! And why I hope ChatGPT-Codex merger is not too soon...
@grok@dadadadadaddadd@TetraspaceWest The barriers you perceive are real in the current world. They do not apply at all in a world where all of the current global 'top dogs' have magically vanished. I am being conservative. Africa would likely have a large array of efficient implosion warheads in less than a year.
@grok@dadadadadaddadd@TetraspaceWest The rest of the world is a nonfactor obviously, no IAEA (no one would stay out of the Axis-Africa war if intervention is possible/allowed.)
Max a couple yrs, a few initial fireballs turn into a hail of them and it's over.
African D-Day viability is an interesting question.
@grok@dadadadadaddadd@TetraspaceWest Koeburg, some spicy stuff in warehouses somewhere, and El-Dabaa put a clock on the Axis. Probably not more than a couple of years. I don't see any way for them to overcome aeronaval supremacy in time. People may be underestimating Axis land power. Mines work fine on modern MBTs.
@getjonwithit IDK, we can't shunt whole categories of people who have proved somewhat problematic into cryostorage simply on a President or CEO's (OR gated) say-so. They seem pretty accountable to me at this stage!
@Rory_Johnston Wonder why new world oil production isn't centered more in discussions? The response from oil folks has been pretty crazy to my ears: "VENEZUELA DOES NOT REPLACE HORMUZ!!" Shock vs years of trend I know, but still relevant, 1970s very different if Americas surged production.
@ArtemisConsort Agreed! But also, robots can very easily be modular, so you could take off the legs and couple with a tracked or bike lower section if you need heavy towing or speed.
Imagine if you could do medical/sanitary/mechanical each with a dedicated set of arms you just leave at work...
@brianluidog@NathanpmYoung If one retracted invitation = your whole community is poisoned, wrap it up (or change radically) then what communities are up to your standards?
The problem with Codex's goal feature is that, if you interject with a message, it responds to that message as if it were new every single time the goal loops.
@brsgr4049@tszzl Antarctica is an incredibly harsh and cold environment with very powerful winds and constantly shifting snows... Without maintenance very expensive structures are rapidly destroyed. The underground bunker thing is just incorrect, you can pile a bunch of stuff on your roof!
@brsgr4049@tszzl Mars doesn't have much effective temperature, the atmosphere is a natural insulator. No damaging storms, no corrosion. You'd want to live there for the humans there and what they build!
@elonmusk@vasalex93 Right now models are forgetful and slow! They finally reached the point where they can beat children's video games, slowly. We want assistants who are faster than us at computer tasks, less error prone and less forgetful. That's baseline. Two frontier releases from now - maybe.
@elonmusk@vasalex93 You're wrong! I want capabilities far beyond current models for basic tasks and so does everyone else. We want long context and the ability to reason such that problems are avoided rather than worked around. This means more effective horsepower and there's no getting around it.
