From nuclear energy and AI to many other important fronts of international relevance, we were once again present at @wef’s #WEF26 in Davos, underscoring the importance of the @IAEAorg’s work.
Deeply honoured to receive an honorary doctorate from @EPFL_en in Lausanne 🇨🇭.
In my lecture, I spoke about active nuclear diplomacy: how science and diplomacy can reinforce each other, and how dialogue, trust and cooperation can make the world safer while extending the benefits of nuclear technology to those who need it most.
My sincere thanks to the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne community for this recognition and for their inspiring work in education and research.
Switzerland is a hub of excellence in nuclear science and innovation, and @EPFL_en is at the heart of it.
I visited the Laboratory for Reactor Physics and Systems Behaviour, where experts study how reactors operate safely and efficiently; the CROCUS research reactor, which trains students and tests new concepts in reactor physics; and the Swiss Plasma Centre’s TCV Tokamak, one of Europe’s leading fusion facilities driving progress toward making fusion energy a reality, which I had the unique opportunity to operate for a brief moment.
These facilities are a reflection of 🇨🇭’s strong commitment to advancing safe and innovative nuclear technologies for peaceful purposes.
National geological disposal programmes and the role of nuclear regulators in advancing these facilities was a key focus at the #IAEAGC today, in a side event organized by Sweden 🇸🇪, Canada 🇨🇦, Finland 🇫🇮, France 🇫🇷, Switzerland 🇨🇭 and the USA 🇺🇸.
Opening the event, Hildegarde Vandenhove, Director of @IAEAorg’s Division of Radiation, Transport and Waste Safety emphasized that geological disposal is “the international recognized solution” for the long-term management of radioactive waste. She also underlined the #IAEA’s role in supporting these efforts through international collaboration, knowledge sharing and the IAEA safety standards: https://t.co/RZgkBkizeV
With strong and consistent backing, Switzerland supports @IAEAorg’s work across key programmes like #RaysOfHope and #NUTECplastics.
Met @BFEenergeia@BenoitRevaz at #IAEAGC and thanked 🇨🇭 for its support, including in Ukraine and our Marine Labs. We value Switzerland’s high-tech expertise and its important role in the global nuclear supply chain.
This week at @iaeaorg#ICONS2024 🇨🇭Switzerland advocated for following priorities:
⁃Remain vigilant and harness the potential of new technologies
⁃Support IAEA’s role in strengthening nuclear security globally

Handed over International Physical Protection Advisory Service mission report to @BFEenergeia’s @BenoitRevaz & high-level delegation at #ICONS2024. Thanked him for 🇨🇭 support in Ukraine, incl. during establishment of the 5 principles to protect ZNPP during their #UNSC presidency.
Emerging technologies such as AI autonomous weapons or drones calls for our constant vigilance. Advances in science and technology offer new opportunities to address risks #ICONS2024 🇨🇭commends @iaeaorg for its role in strengthening nuclear security globally @BFEenergeia
The International Conference on Nuclear Security is here! Join IAEA DG @rafaelmgrossi, #ICONS2024 Co-Presidents @TimWattsMP 🇺 and Sungat Yessimkhanov 🇰🇿 in shaping the future of nuclear security.
