@LatterdayLogic On-brand LDS proud humility. Or humble pride. You’re the Pharisee Jesus mentions in Luke 18: 9-14. And “creedal Christians” are the tax collector.
@LatterdayLogic@MrEncouragement Didn’t address anything in the previous post. You know you can’t. Oh and you left out the rest of that sentence: “we believe the Bible -so far as it’s translated correctly” which is a vague discrediting of the Word (the parts out of step w Bible, that is) Discernment is hard thou
@sadnky@UnrealBluegrass Monroe doctrine, closing border, championing election integrity w the save America act, exposing the media as propaganda. I’ve been loving this admin since 2017 when T called Acosta “fake news.” Awesome time to be alive. Sorry you’re sad. He’s effective. Sorry you’re sad. MAGA!!
@editoria_alan@IdleGlands@RonDuncan7@Salt_n_Smoke Appreciate you bringing up Paul convicting Peter. That is what all Christians should do when one of the flock starts going off-Book. The Bereans were lauded for this adherence to what is written > men, even of high rank. So, why won’t LDS accept conviction when they go off Book?
@editoria_alan@IdleGlands@RonDuncan7@Salt_n_Smoke I don’t demand infallibility. But Deut 18:22 informs us how to determine when men speak for God, if they’re legit or not. David was a man after God’s own heart and still guilty of adultery &murder. We’re not talking about infallibility (Jesus aid no one is good but God in heavn)
@editoria_alan@IdleGlands@RonDuncan7@Salt_n_Smoke Yup, McConkie vs Pace was embarrassing for both men and has little bearing on Smith being a true prophet. But Joseph Smith’s own false prophesies determine his false prophet status.
@artMISSIONARY@Salt_n_Smoke 1. Russell denied being a prophet, yes, and yet he made prophesies. They never came to pass, so he proved he is not a prophet (but he still made prophesies).
2. My spiritual leader is Jesus, ie: God the Son.
@IdleGlands@editoria_alan@RonDuncan7@Salt_n_Smoke Did you ever read or read about George Pace’s book on building a personal relationship with Christ? And McConkie publicly humiliating him for daring to promote such a thing. I can’t stand McConkie. Reminds me of Brigham Young publicly humiliating members too.
@IdleGlands@editoria_alan@RonDuncan7@Salt_n_Smoke I know a lot of LDS that privately conclude the church is not what it purports itself to be,but they like the community etc so they put the controversies on the shelf and carry on LDS. The cost of leaving is more than theyre willing to pay. BH Roberts perhaps made the same choice
@IdleGlands@editoria_alan@RonDuncan7@Salt_n_Smoke YupBH Robert never went public w the controversy, rather presented his findings to 1st presidency in hopes of figuring out how best to proceed. I read his book, published after his death. The example of responding to facts with affirming what they’d prefer to believe is LDS common
@editoria_alan@RonDuncan7@IdleGlands@Salt_n_Smoke He plagiarized from other sources (1 being the KJV) and frankstein’d his Bible fan fiction together. BH Roberts reached that same conclusion & told 1st presidency. Their response: “I know the church is true.” Affirming lies can make u believe lies. But they’re still lies.
